ScienceNews: "Deflategate favored foul play over science"

Bill Nye was apparently wrong to laugh at Bill Belichick as scientists point out his explanation just days after the scandal broke was the most probable happening in this case.

Scientist Michael Naughton (expert in condensed matters physics, Buffalo Bills fan) lent his expertise to the matter when the controversy initially blew up. Naughton’s lab at Boston College inflated a football to 13.5 psi at 72° F. Then they stuck it in a fridge and measured the pressure at 42° F (slightly cooler than the low on game night of 47.7° F, the average of measurements from two weather stations near Gillette Stadium). The pressure dropped to 10.5 psi.

Nerds trying to be cool talking about football

The only reason people care is because it's the Patriots. Tons of former QBs have come out and said this practice is common place. The only scandal should be about the Colts being whiny snitches.

The NY Times had a piece on this as well basically punching holes in the NFL report.

I don't know how much of a difference 5 degrees would make but it seems pretty stupid to do this experiment and not have the temperature the same as it was on game night

Not one single Qb has said this is common place. Not one.

quote:Yeah. It's absolutely foolish to not better control for a variable, especially one that is easily controllable. Not to mention, why would they experiment with one football? Do they know about sample sizes? Elementary science projects are more scientific than that.

Yea I'm pretty sure a 12 year old can conduct a better experiment than this lol

Too many questions to have ever issued a penalty.

Jeff Blake-
quote:
"I'm just going to let the cat out of the bag, every team does it, every game, it has been since I played. 'Cause when you take the balls out of the bag, they are rock hard."
"I would just say, 'Take a little bit out, it's a little bit hard.' And then they'd take a little bit out and I'd squeeze them and say 'That's perfect.' That's it."
Joe Montana-
quote:
“It’s a stupid thing to even be talking about because they shouldn’t have the rule anyway. If you want to see the game played at the best, everybody has a different grip, everybody likes a different feel.”
Dan Marino-
quote:
“Every quarterback that has ever played the position understands that getting the footballs the way you like them before a game is part of the game. I mean I did it for years, Jim Kelly up in buffalo did it, Tom’s doing it, Peyton Manning’s doing it.”
Donavan McNabb-
quote:
"First of all, everyone needs to relax…As a quarterback in this league, you’re given balls at the beginning of the week. What we do is we scrape them down, get them as game-worn. We put them in the steam room. We take them out and practice with them. That was something we did in Philadelphia and everyone uses their own tactic."

Yeh just like I said, not a single Qb said they did the same thing. Notice the difference they didn't area and tamper with the balls after inspection?
Posted on 6/21/15 at 9:50 pm to lsupride87
Jeff Blake literally said he told people to squeeze the air out of balls for him. Do you know how to read? How are you even capable of posting?
Posted on 6/21/15 at 9:55 pm to BowlJackson
Don't bother. He's an insane Peyton lover/Brady hater.
Posted on 6/21/15 at 9:56 pm to BowlJackson
Did he have the hulk squeezing the balls? Brady should have gone with that technique and he wouldnt be suspended
Posted on 6/22/15 at 9:07 am to lsupride87
Did you have the hulk make that post for you? Should have gone with that technique and sound less clueless.

No you are right I guess, I should trust the 3rd grade science experiment that cant even control it's variables instead of just getting over this already and saying Brady cheated

You realize the guys just popped it in a regular fridge to demonstrate a scientific fact observable for the past hundreds of years?
