They way you phrased the "eyeball" post was as if ESPN is only doing it for ratings. You honestly cant believe that there is no moral obligation on a journalist whether a sports broadcaster or producer to have this story in the national landscape? Sure ultimately ratings enter in to it but I dont think it is the sole driving purpose behind the story.

do some research before you accuse

from Dec. 14

quote:

And yesterday Rutgers University coach Mike Rice was suspended for three games, fined $50,000 and banned from any contact with the program for foul language and inappropriate behavior, which included throwing basketballs at players’ heads during practice.

Where were all of you sympathizers then??????

Exactly. No one gave Rutgers shite then. It clearly said he threw balls at players' heads. Why do you need a video to substantiate that?

quote:

The problems for Rice may be just beginning, however, as former NBA star Eric Murdock, RU’s director of player development until he was fired last summer, promised to release tapes of Rice mistreating players if not compensated by the university.

Not sure why you can't comprehend this...

Murdick said made it clear he was going to tear Rutgers down if they didn't pay him.

Naturally ESPN runs with the story. Some credible source, huh? One who threatens to destroy a school because his selfish personality isn't getting money for a something he did to himself

If they were worried about their moral obligation, why did they wait until April to report on a story from November?

The tapes prove Murdock is credible. His motivation is another thing but it's pretty obvious he's telling the truth on this.

he sent a letter asking for $950,000, which was 12 times his annual salary of $70k. at least the fbi is now investigating him for extortion. doesnt change the fact that a good man and leader of young people is now without a job and his image tarnished because his superiors didnt want to get sued by the basketball coach.

again....when did they know that it was this big? Honest question that would affect my opinion on their reporting.

If the story was a bunch of guys saying" hey this coach is mean and yells and grabs kids", or " this coach says some pretty harsh stuff" that may not be enough for the people to dig when there is action being taken.

If they watched the tape or knew of the tape at the same time as the AD/Pres then I would take issue with the delay.

cutting 30 minutes of tape from roughly 6,500 hours of footage is credible?

You have to be trolling at this point

That's like complaining when a 98 percent free throw shooter misses 200 free throws out of 10,000 attempts

You think with all the resources they have to cover sports they couldn't figure out that Rutgers coach was suspended for 3 games in December and ask why?

Maybe they don't get the USA Today in Bristol.

So ESPN wants to get higher ratings so they can get more advertising dollars from sponsors? Interdasting

Who cares if innocent men get stomped on and have their careers destroyed in the process? I guess more specifically, the AD in this case.

ESPN gained attention this week. Woo-hoo. Sorry bout that Perinetti. Have a nice life!

So when Murdock says Rice threw balls at players and kicked them you think he's lying?

So after all of this, who wins? I would give the win to the disgruntled employee who demanded 12X his annual salary, and of course, ESPN got viewers.

Who loses? Rutgers athletic department and fans. They just lost a good AD.

It should treated like a trial

Tapes from a person trying to extort shouldn't be used as evidence

That's where ESPN fricked up

checkbook journalism
