That's awful. Just saw from Twitter:
Gwynn hit .415/.476/.521 off GREG MADDUX.

Noooooo!!!! I loved him growing up, I used to go to at least 20 Padres games a year!

Damn. This sucks. May his family find peace during this difficult time

Was he on the bench coaching for SD State during the Lafayette regional? I didn't see any of their games

My favorite TG story. One of his secrets to hitting was a batting practice routine different from other hitters. Most hitters just tried to hit BP balls as hard as they could. Gwynn would start BP trying to hit a few balls down the LF line. Then a few balls into the gap between LF and CF. Then balls up the middle, then balls in the right gap and finally pulling balls down the RF line.
It's more common today but 30 years ago it was not.

Averaging 22 strikeouts a season. That's just fricking crazy man

Living for three years in SD as a kid, I admired Gwynn so much. This is so sad.

Mark Reynolds struck out 434 times in 2 years.

I don't remember the exact quote, but Gwynn said something along the lines of, "If I hit a home run, I've usually messed up."
Dude could but the bat on the ball and the ball in play. Fun to watch. One of the all-time greats.
