My favorite TG story. One of his secrets to hitting was a batting practice routine different from other hitters. Most hitters just tried to hit BP balls as hard as they could. Gwynn would start BP trying to hit a few balls down the LF line. Then a few balls into the gap between LF and CF. Then balls up the middle, then balls in the right gap and finally pulling balls down the RF line.

It's more common today but 30 years ago it was not.

I don't remember the exact quote, but Gwynn said something along the lines of, "If I hit a home run, I've usually messed up."

Dude could but the bat on the ball and the ball in play. Fun to watch. One of the all-time greats.
