One of the great ones. I'd put himself up there with Vin Scully and Jack Buck (I'm a Cards fan).

Summertime... listening to Gene Elston while drinking iced tea on the patio as the sun went down over the newly-cut grass. Rest in Peace Gene.

Gene had an incredibly smooth voice .. He was my childhood, growing up as an Astros fan .. WJBO here in BR had the games. Home night games started at 7:35 and Sunday games at 2:05 .. Bob Green and Bill Ennis were on the broadcast team too ..

I was a big fan of Gene. He wasn't a big homer like Lowel Passe. Played it pretty much straight down the middle. From New Iberia I could only pick up the radio station at night.

My very first season I can remember was 1980 when we won the west and the team only hit 49 HRs .. I was hanging on every bit of Elston's calls after the All Star break ..

I was listening/watching when Deirker and Don Wilson were still pitching. Channel 5 in Alexandria carried the Stros on Sunday.
