...after Jay Z “overplayed his hand”

LINK

quote:

According to Feinsand the contract talks “collapsed after Jay Z apparently overplayed his hand in a negotiating session with the Mariners” by asking for a 10-year, $252 million deal following “assurances” that Seattle would do $225 million over nine years. Mariners chief executive officer Howard Lincoln reportedly “exploded” after Jay Z upped the demands mid-meeting.

From what I understand, he has a team of guys he's plucked from Boras, the Levinson's, Lozano, etc that are doing the dirty work and he's just the face of it all. I didn't think he'd ever get involved in the actual negotiations.

Cano has to be rethinking his decision to go with Rocnation (JayZ) as his agent at this point. Now he's going to have to "settle" for $175 million from the Yankees (poor him) assuming the Mariners deal is actually off the table.

True, but we're not talking about Darwin Barney here. Cano is in a league of his own.

Yankees are offering 7 years 170-175 million and they haven't budged. Mariners were willing to go 10 for 225 but apparently Cano wanted more

How can he not take a second and sit back and think to himself, "Someone just offered me $225 million to hit a ball. For only 9 years." Why does he need to think about it and try to get $10 million more? Jesus.

there is no denying that he's the best in the league, but he's a 31 year old(that we know of) second basemen with over 1400 games played including the playoffs

nah let's give him the Pujols treatment and hate ourselves for 10 years
