for me it's not so much the amount of penalties but the penalties they call
special teams flags are out of control. sometimes it takes forever just to give the other team the ball
hands to the face penalty...awful...ruins good plays and extends sputtered drives. then you throw in any exciting play involving someone getting hit (keep in mind we're talking about football) you're not excited but rather looking over the screen for yellow flags to see if the play will even count.
the nfl fricking blows if I'm being honest.

For me, it's just the penalties, man.
Flag, flag, flag, flag...
The refs have inserted themselves waaaaaaay too much into every NFL game.
And the players... they just can't stop breaking rules, either because they are too stupid to know them, or they do it on purpose.
I have said this many times. I should NOT KNOW the names of the referees. I know all of their names, and for many of them I know their personalities and tendencies. Because they are singled out on plays as much as the players themselves!
There should be no need for Mike Perreira or anyone else to be a network's "rules consultant" during broadcasts.
Damn, do people really like this shite?

ke away all the QB protection rules, how great would the NFL be when more and more and more QBs keep getting injured and we're watching Luke McCown every weekend?
Maybe some of the responsibility should be on the coaches of the offense. Instead of putting 5 receivers out in pass patterns on every play keep some blockers in to protect the QB. It's the coach's fault for putting the QB in that vulnerable position, when is he going to be held accountable by the team owner for not taking care of the QB.
It used to be that if you didn't want to protect the QB then he wouldn't finish the game. Instead of making that part of the game they just pass rules altering the game all in favor of the offenses.

Meh the league is already suffering from shitty QB play, so I don't mind them trying to protect them more nowadays.

that's bogus, you've seen no decrease in injuries at the quarterback position. 1/4 through the year and we've had injuries and missed time to brees, Roethlisberger, and tony room
two years ago, aaron Rodgers missed about 12 games. sam Bradford has been hurt every single year
the truth is the current rules at best don't do a damn thing to keep qbs on the field, and in reality, qbs have been missing a lot of time the last few years
cutler
Rodgers
brees
romo
Roethlisberger
griffin III
foles
Bradford
cassel
and if having STAR qbs on the field is so important, then why the frick are they hellbent on suspending tom brady? and manning missed the entire 2011 season, and according to many on here is still fricked up and injured

Your needs for cheap thrills and the joy you get from seeing people get hurt is not greater than the athletes right to health and safety and non-injury.

Then there's 1 other thing, they put all these rules in place, and the game is more popular now than ever, so they can basically have their cake and eat it too.
I would argue that it's only as popular as it is because of fantasy football and fanduel/draft kings...
I wouldn't watch the Sunday and Monday night games if it didn't impact my fantasy team..
Take the saints game for example... There were so many penalties, by the third quarter, even Jim Henderson on 870 picked up on it.. There was zero rhythm to the game, no momentum could be had, players on defense cannot be physical with offensive skill positions, etc, etc...
The games are boring to me now and if I wasn't such a diehard saints fan who also plays fantasy football, I'm afraid all of my fall sports attention would be devoted to college football
But a lot of people will probably disagree with me, but it is what it is

chris mcallister won't be remembered but he was top caliber player for a number of years. great cb
He was really good, but was also surrounded by greatness on that defense

They'll probably ask, "what is the NFL?"
Right. It's not like the league is more popular and more profitable than ever.
Oh wait, it is.

that's a huge difference IMO

I usually watch RedZone throughout the day so I suppose I am immune to normal penalties through a normal game.
But the Saints / Cowboys game was annoying as hell. I'd hate to see a worse NFL game in regards to penalties - you are saying they're actually quite common. I don't feel like I've seen any college games this year that are close to that bad.
And yeah I agree with another poster that presnap penalties are only about 1/3rd as annoying as penalties that occur during the play and completely overturn what you've just seen.
So even if another game has 22 penalties, but 10 of them are presnap penalties, that is as bad as the 14 penalty Saints/Cowboys game

This is fricking stupid... They SIGNED UP for this... They GET PAID to do this.. shite, most of the players themselves talk about 'going to war' weekly.. To me it's just like any other profession... You work in a dangerous environment, you do so on your own recognizance, but get paid accordingly.... These guys are diafied and worshipped and most of them are financially secure so what's the problem

fricking absurd
Then on top of that, you have these gems that go down like this:
Potential TD.. Commercial for review... Come back from commercial, announce TD stands..... XP is kicked, COMMERCIAL..... Kickoff out the back of the end zone.... COMMERCIAL
my god, it's a travesty at times
