hate to beat a dead horse but players are selling their awards everywhere. players are getting discounts everywhere.

do you think last year if patrick peterson walked into a bar and he ordered 5 shots that he would pay full price? phuck no. he's probably getting free drinks like every bigtime college football player. hell mac football players i know don't pay cover at bars and get free drinks.

that's just as guilty a crime as selling one of your four rings for cash

Not so sure the expert comparison works here......

PP7 will soon sign a multimillion dollar contract and I don't even know if he drinks..Ray Small is selling tOSU down the river to a school newspaper for a chezzburger.

......but the coach doesn't carry out a unilateral cover-up of major violations everywhere.

Not defending tress, but to assume that most coaches do not completely ignore some major and minor violations is ignorant..and if you can agree with that...anytime they knowingly ignore those violation they are technically covering them up by not reporting them.

A lot of coaches would do they same thing...Tress just got caught.

Don't you just love the justification of rules breaking from Big Ten fans? An SEC school breathes wrong and Big Ten fans are all over it talking about how renegade and out of control the SEC is. tOSU has DOCUMENTED lying/cheating by a head coach (and probably LOIC against the tOSU athletic department if the NCAA really wanted to find it) but what do Big Ten fans come back with? "The SEC is much worse." Based on what? Big Ten fan: "...but, but, but....they OVERSIGN!!" Oversigning isn't against NCAA rules. "Well....umm...the SEC cheats and doesn't care about player's educations like we do in the Big Ten". Gotta love the backpedalling from Big Ten fans.

I really hope you aren't getting all that from my post.

ETA:

And I really don't see that anywhere in this thread either.

Actually, it is. The SEC limits schools to 28 signees a year. You have a few schools that have breached that limit. The SEC is looking at further restricting the number of signees.

Houston Nutt is making it his personal goal to block the move to further restrict the number of LOI's that an SEC can accept.

Link?

This everyone does it excuse is tiresome. What does that have to do with your program? Your acting like a little kid who got in trouble, but wont own up to it because "everyone was doing it".

Agreed. You know what? I don't give a frick if everyone else is doing it. We are Ohio State and we should not be doing it. Period.

It's still amazing to me that there are Buckeye fans (not any here, besides finallyfast) defending Tress.

There are more than a few. I'll admit that more people have accepted reality than earlier on. When the news first came out, some people actually thought a 2 game suspension would be plenty.

That was a typo on my end. I meant to say oversigning wasn't against NCAA rules.

I think the anti-oversigning folks blow this issue WAY WAY out of proportion. It typically involved some coaches simply planning for natural attrition. Occasionally it doesn't work out perfectly and as long as the head coach informed any potentially affected players that they will have to grayshirt if such and such happens then it's not a big deal.

I don't mind them changing the rules on it though. I just get sick of the suggestion by some that it's "cheating" or how players are intentionally and systematically being screwed when you can count the number of complaints from former players on less than one hand.

Tressel isn't going to get fired because his players broke the rules. He's going to get fired because he knowingly played ineligible players and lied about it. Tressel has no one to blame but himself.

In no way does that make it right, but its kinda frustrating when Dr. Idiot comes in here spouting his mouth a huge Texas avatar, acting squeaky clean.

I understand OSU and their fans have to basically take their medicine, it just a little frustrating to see idiots jump on the pile.

I agree. SEC teams are playing within the rules that are in place in regards to signing players.

I also dont see why everyone is so pissed about the medical hardships. If you dont want to go on one, your free to transfer to any school that will have you, and if you do go on one you get a free education, and you dont have to do anything to keep it. Sounds terrible. I cant believe Bama would give these kids a free education when they could kick them out into the street. Its reprehensible.
