The Leafs at least put together some talent I think the Flames are trying to lose. Their front office moves have been horrible.

LMAO, ya because your geographical region determines your sports teams.

One of the dumbest things I've read in awhile.

Guess I better quit being a Raiders fan too, and thank god the Sonics moved to OKC so now they're the closest for my "fanhood".

BWHAHAHAHA.

Dumbfrick.

Actually, it sort of does. That's why there are more Penguins fans in Pittsburgh than anywhere else. Some people hop around, but we call them bandwagoners and don't take them very seriously.

Though I do root for the Flames and am not from Calgary, but that has to do with rooting against Wayne Gretzky. And every American should root for one Canadian team just for the heck of it.

Are you seriously arguing that geography plays no part in people's decision on which teams to root for? Because I find that to be an untenable position. That's not flaming, that's just looking at where fans come from and why teams root for teams.

I didn't root for a single Dallas team until moving here, but now I've slowly started to root for them because they are on TV all of the time and they get lots of coverage on local radio and news. I'm familiar with the teams. Also, in all of my social interactions, when people talk sports, they talk the local teams. I find myself rooting for the local teams, save the Cowboys, because of familiarity. Also, going to games is a big part of the fan experience, and going to the game as a neutral is boring. You start rooting for the local team as part of the ritual of going to games.

Yeah, I think proximity and geography is a HUGE determinant in who people root for.

Too bad Tampa sucks, if they could have made the playoffs he might have had a slim chance at the MVP over Malkin.

Yes, because it doesn't.

Obviously people IN the city generally root for the local team, makes sense. I'm speaking for myself since you called me out on it, not an entire local area.

What do you do if you hate the closest team, the Blues in my case. Grew up hating the Blues, from their colors, to their name, to generally sucking, I hated them and still do. However I really hope they make the Cup Finals as do my Pens so I can catch another Penguins game this year. I drool about the thought of a Game 6 or 7 in St Louis and watching my Pens dominate.

Oh and btw, I've attended 1 game in the Igloo, and 4 games in St Louis when the Pens were in town. Thankfully with the new NHL Realignment, I can see a Pens game every year in St Louis now. I still have my Youth Small Martin Straka Jersey, I'm such a bandwagoner.

biggest reason why i like the Pens is my dad would take me to games when i was a kid, and we live 3.5 hours away from Pittsburgh...WV gets fox pittsburgh (root sports now) so i got to see every game...

same with the Braves and TBS...i spent my summers with my grandpa watching the braves play on TV, then would go to cincy whenever they came up this way...

Packers, different story altogether...

I purchase NHL Center Ice 2nd half every year. Good price on it, and every Root Sports Pittsburgh Penguins broadcast.

It pisses me off that I don't get FOX Sports OKC though, considering it's only about 4 hours away, and the only NBA team even remotely close.

so basically b/c the closet hockey team to you growing up sucked so you decided to jump on the bandwagon of a good team at the time. That equals bandwagon

no better than cowboys fans from dc/philly/nyc/florida/lousinina and cali all become cowboys fans b/c their closest NFL team sucked at the time

The Bruins only lost two games down the stretch -- to the Penguins and Capitals. The Caps are in Thomas' head right now. Of the three teams we could've played, I most wanted to play the B's (least wanted to play the Devils -- that's the sort of team that owns the Caps).

The Bruins work off of intimidation and the Caps won't be.

Ugh we got Boston. I ran into Alan May last night, he had some interesting things to say about the team.

I do think we beat Boston though. Did not want the Devils either.

See, I think the Devils are precisely the kind of team that beats the Caps (one great line, good goalie, then trap trap trap). The Bruins are a deep team who thrives off of physical play -- they like hitting, but they aren't a trapping team. And for some reason, Thomas plays like garbage against the Caps.

I preferred the Bruins over the Devils. Let's do this (though honestly, I kinda wanted the Pens).
