Random thought; it's weird to me that Geno Auriemma hasn't tried coaching men

What's the deal with that? One of the most dominant coaches ever regardless of sport, but he is content with toiling around on the bottom rung of the basketball ladder. Anyone else find this weird?

He knows if he went to mens nobody would know his name anymore.

Why leave his current position where he may have 2 hard games out of 40 every season to run through a ringer and have losing records?

He'd probably have to work ten times as hard. In WBB at this point if he just sends an offer to a recruit he probably gets her

It's not weird at all. He makes more than most men's coaches, including Kevin Ollie. Women's basketball is also less competitive, so he has an easier time dominating the competition.

Why would he give that up?

What do you mean by this? He's essentially a household name for anyone that watches espn and it would be a huge story if he jumped into men's basketball. Is your opinion that he would fail miserably/he would be an average coach compared to the coaches in men's basketball?

Because I've posted on tigerdroppings for 6 years and if I've learned anything, it's that Nick Saban wants to prove he can succeed at the highest level, so he will entertain offers from the browns and colts each offseason

he's got a sure thing going. He likes his work.
what's not to like?
he gets to do coaching and mentoring. I am sure they pay attention.

he probably has competition from few programs.
Notre Dame will always be a factor now.

I mean right now he's the biggest fish on earth in a really tiny pond. If he went to the mens game he'd lose that.

And that's all it is, a story. That has nothing to do with his performance.

I don't know about "fail miserably" but hell no he wouldn't come even remotely close to his current success.

Women's basketball is a a joke. There is no parity, it's Uconn and everyone else. Out of ~40 games in a season uconn is tested in maybe 2. He is a shoe in for a final 4 every single season. And how hard does he even have to recruit? He probably doesn't even have ot at this point. And hell, how hard does he even have to coach? When your team is up 20 every game, all game, what plays are you having to call? What scheming are you having to do?

Put him in the mens' game where he is challenged every week and actually has to work his arse off to get people to the school and you're damn right he's going to be average. At the outset anyway.

I reckon it's because he's won 100 games in a row.

Could be wrong though.

He also would have almost no recruiting pipeline with men's bball. I don't know if women's basketball has AAU or what but those recruiting relationships don't happen overnight. With no ties to men's high school basketball programs and AAU teams, Geno would be competing against Coach K, Cal, and others for the best recruits.

It would be two years minimum before Geno would be snagging the top players and building a solid men's program.

My 16 year old sister goes to,the same school and is best friends with Christyn Williams who is like the top womens prospect in the country in 2018(I've played her she can fricking go). She is being heavily recruited by uconn and while she said she wi probably end up there she doesn't care for gene. Says he talks down to people and makes it like the only way she can be a success is if she comes there. But 99 -0 I can send barney the dingo as my lead recruiter

and there ya go. People don't even care for the guy but still go there anyway because they know they're going to win every game and win a handful of national titles.

That aint happening in the men's game.

I was just thinking this the other day. He's got it made where he is, but has any AD ever offered him to coach men's basketball?
