It was close a couple of weeks ago, and it’s still close. But, obviously, it’s not done until it’s done.
The Rams and defensive tackle Aaron Donald, the reigning NFL defensive player of the year, remain on the verge of a deal that will make him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, per a source with knowledge of the situation.
Whenever the plane lands, the expectation is that the contract will be in the neighborhood of $22 million per year, with as much as $80 million guaranteed (total guarantee, not fully guaranteed) at signing.

How much $ can they spend?
Posted on 8/26/18 at 4:04 pm to Mr. Elvert
They have a little over 58m in cap space for 2019.

Yes, but eventually all this shite hits in 3-4 years and they are screwed. I think Jerry did this 20 years ago

Everybody always said the saints would be in cap hell. There are ways around this but the challenge will be Goff. They’re still paying him a rookie contract.
My bigger close cern is their chemistry. Lots of idiots on that team

Re-read that thread and get back to me.
Tl;Dr - I've been advocating the whole time they don't overpay him. Let him walk.

He can generate inside pressure at an astounding rate and is a force against the run.

Mack win the game of chicken. Let's see what the raiders do.

ANYONE who doesn't think AD should receive this should immediately enroll in a Dominant and Unstoppable Defensive Disruptor Intro level course or else turn in their sports fan card. A defensive disruptor who does what AD does at an elite level is as valuable if not more valuable than a great quarterback or great offensive lineman bc they can virtually eliminate/nullify an offense in a game i.e. Joe Greene, Lawrence Taylor, Warren Sapp, Aaron Donald, Von Miller, etc. In order to win, gotta keep the opposing offense from scoring more than your team. You don't pay him, you're gonna get your arse whupped many a day. Common sense, everybody.

Not saying he can’t. They were 28th in 2017 run defense. Heck of an inside lineman. Insane amount of money for that spot.
