Should they just do away with the whole "pass was uncatchable" thing? To me it makes it to much of a judgement call from the referee. Many times the pass was uncatchable because they guy was being interfered with. Also just relate it to other sports, if Dwight Howard shoots a 3 and is fouled, he still gets to shoot 3 free throws, it doesn't matter that the 3 is "unmakeable" because it is coming from Dwight Howard. To me, either it is a foul/penalty or it isn't.

Thoughts?

I agree.

If the ball was uncatchable then why was the defender interfering with the receiver?

So does that turn every illegal contact penalty (while the ball is in the air) into pass interference?

Illegal contact does not exist when the ball is in the air.

That was the best analogy you could come up with?

Dwight has made 5 3 point attempts in his career. Over 10% go of his attempts. Hardly unmakeable. A better example would be a loose ball getting rebounding position when the rebound went out of bounds anyway.

What?

The ball being physically out of the range of a receiver is not the same as someone being bad at a particular shot. There's a difference between physically impossible, and a low percentage shot.

"Don't limit the modern athlete" is in the rule book when judging subjectively if catch can be made
