I know it was mentioned in some of the Cubs' threads but never got it's own mention as one of the odder MLB stories this season:

La Stella Staying Home

At least Puig shows up to his minor-league games, he just likes to party after

Why doesn't the a-hole just report, and tell cubs he wants a trade in Offseason???

Really bad way of doing things.

He needs to report. I get wanting a few days to cool out, because it was a tough move. LaStella was producing, and Coghlan has struggled. The club was even considerate enough to grant him a few days. LaStella looks worse the longer this goes.

Because he doesn't want to be traded. He literally wants to play on the Cubs MLB roster or retire

he is Bryant or Rizzo, him making demands is laughable. If he wants to be a Cub, then report, not reporting makes his time with Cubs start to close as the season nears its end.

I read more into the story and there doesn't seem to be any bad blood. La Stella claims he thought about retiring last year (at 26). His story is what you said...he was demoted (understanding the numbers crunch and options game) but he only wants to play on the MLB roster for the Cubs. The way he tells it, if he isn't getting that then he's content to not play at all.

It's definitely odd as he has to know he would be back as late as September 1, possibly earlier. I don't think he's making demands. I think he is a guy who was thinking about his future before this and the demotion has brought it back up for him again.
