any list in which Patrick Willis isn't the top defensive player isn't right IMO

Did you even watch 49er games this year? Navarro Bowman looked as good as Willis.

Justin Smith was a fricking monster this year.

Take the blinders off, Champ is getting older.

I don't get all the hate for the list, it includes playoffs.

Rodgers first

I may have missed it, but is Greg Jennings not on the list? I know he got hurt, but he still had a good season despite all the WRs GB has.

Oh, and a tip for those of you that don't read PFF a lot, they rate each player on each play from a scale to -2.0 to 2.0 .

LINK

A strip sack touchdown is a 2.0 grade for context.

This is a joke

He is the only reason the Cowboys stop anyone. When a team has to gameplan to avoid you. You are better than the cats above you.

Rodgers had a better season statistically. Brees threw more passes

Its not like teams didn't game plan against Patrick Willis, T-Sizzle, Justin Smith, or Revis.

I'm a homer, but you turn in the greatest statistical season by a QB in NFL history on the greatest statistical season by an offense in NFL history and you only rate #3, behind another QB and a DE?

I missed this statement the first time through.

El.Oh.El.

You were right on one thing, you are biased as frick.

So, he's still a top cornerback in the league. He still shuts down his side of the field for the most part. Carlos Rogers should also be higher than Brent Grimes and Cortland Finnegan.

I think this list is shitty.

You have that backwards.. Rodgers did have the better season, but statistically brees did.. More completions, more touchdowns, more yards, better completion percentage, more attempts, more 300 yard games.. (most of those being new nfl records). Rodgers only had less interceptions by a land slide and better efficiency.

Rodgers really tailed off at the end of the year. PFF will also downgrade you if you suck against the run, they like well rounded players, its the reason Chris Long is so low.

Nah, Rodgers was better statistically. It might look like Brees was on the surface, but he just compiled more due to throwing a lot more passes. Rodgers had a higher YPA, better TD to int ratio, more TD passes per attempt, etc. Brees still had an all time great season though, obviously

Lists like this are retarded. It is impossible to compare qbs to safeties etc and then rank them.

Its like comparing apples and oranges and making a list of whats best. It means nothing and has no value.

After much individual prep work and a marathon discussion between Neil Hornsby, Khaled Elsayed, Ben Stockwell and Sam Monson, a Top 101 was created using these criteria:

• It was based solely on 2011.
• It was based on an ethos of all positions created equal. This isn’t about the most valuable players, otherwise there would be a lot more quarterbacks. This is about looking what is expected from a position and who most exceeded that.

So I guess when the media says Tony Romo isn't going to have a great year then puts up the 4th best passing season, it isn't 'exceeding' everyones expectations.

The criteria this guy used is way too subjective and it favors players that came out of nowhere, like some rookies.

How is it subjective?

It's all based off their own ratings based on tape study.

They are looking at what season was expected of the player, which would be subjective because that is a personal opinion on how a player will do, and then rank them accordingly.

Therefore, rookies get a higher ranking if they do well and so do players coming off injury and so on.
