Rodgers is plenty good enough to win Super Bowls.

It all comes down to how good the rest of the team is.

He may never win another Super Bowl, but it won't be because of him.

This is the exact belief I disagree with.

Rodgers passer rating is artifically elevated by the fact that he takes so many sacks. Other QB's like Manning and Brees get rid of the ball, which leads to more interceptions and a lower TD:INT ratio. But is also leads to a higher 3rd down conversion percentage, a far, far lower sack percentage, and ultimately more wins because you have to take chances in the NFL to succeed.

I don't quite understand this logic. First of all, you fail to differentiate "taking a sack" from "getting sacked." Although QBs play a role in getting sacked, there are many other variables at play, , the quality of the offensive line being the most obvious. Furthermore, Aaron Rodgers has an extremely quick release so he has an personal attribute that would limit the number of sacks.

In addition, although a sack rate is a useful statistic, unless you account for the style of the QB, then it isn't a completely valid comparison between QBs. For example, although he has played far fewer years, Aaron Rodgers has 1590 rushing yards compared to 692 for Peyton Manning and 625 for Drew Brees. A QB that is more likely to run when facing an intense pass rush will be more likely to get sacked as well.

Finally, I think it is pretty clear that passer rating and QBR have flaws like any other statistic; however, QBR is based on a flawed premise that tries to do too much. Basically it is less useful. Furthemnore, you mentioned Pro Football Focus and their quick explanation and examples of QB stats (LINK ) keeps showing Aaron Rodgers as a top performer.

Basically, I think it is safe to say that most metric shows that Aaron Rodgers is an exceptional quarterback.

I agree with this. If you look at the super bowl champions since 1999, only two teams had a QB making elite QB money, both of them Mannings. Peyton in 2006 and Eli in 2011. Drew was still on his first, lower salary contract in 2009, Brady did not get his big payday until after their last championship, and Rodgers was not yet making elite money in 2010. Of course, Roethlisberger still doesn't make elite money, I don't think, but he certainly did not through 2008. Wilson makes pennies compared to these guys.

The elite QB contract is a massive obstacle to overcome and requires a great deal of luck and great drafts to do it.

Now this is probably a very valid argument. I think this may highlight the circular logic of the NFL. I think we can safely designate four QBs as objectively elite the past 5 or 10 years (Manning, Brees, Brady, and Rodgers). The argument I hear, and don't disagree with in theory, is that you need a great QB to win a Super Bowl; however, we often determine greatness by winning a SB. Therefore, if we typically place a disproportionate weight for greatness on winning a Super Bowl then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy that you need a great QB to win the Super Bowl.

He's overrated IMO
For those keeping track at home, he just passed 25,000 passing yards for his career today. The fourth fastest in NFL history behind Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner and Dan Marino.

omg dude like whatever

I'm not the OP. Check my posts in the thread, DA.

Bumping because Rodgers had a stud first half doesn't decide the argument either way. I think he's the best in the game, but bumping to say "see, look at the first half stats" doesn't do anything.

You special.

I think his point would be better illustrated if he pointed out that all the people saying Rodgers is overrated are doing so based on his play this season. His numbers through 3.5 games are

65% COMP
880 YDs
7 TDs
1 INT

Most QBs would kill for a decline like that.

yes i saw the rest, and i noticed your prior posts...thus the edit

big picture is I've used common sense this entire thread and called out how ridiculous it was to ever refer the A Rod as overrated....and since you agreed earlier in the thread, why in the hell would you say my post "proved nothing"?? Make up your damn mind, debating with you is getting confusing

Because what he does in the first half of any game doesn't prove Rodgers is the best QB in the league.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to keep repeating this.

It just got called back because of a hold, but the throw he just made would have been the throw of the year.

Let's say this thread gets started last Sunday and the OP bumps after the first half to post the stats to "prove that Rodgers isn't the best in the league."

How would the Rodgers' backers respond?

Hopefully you can see where this is going.
