I seriously doubt any tennis player would be great today.

Certainly not Evert or Mac. Maybe Graf.

Certain sports evolve at such a swift rate.

Borg won 41% of the Grand Slam singles tournaments he entered and 90% of those matches...A record that still stands. In his prime he was more dominant than Fed.

One of the most dominant athletes ever. He retired at age 26 in 1983.

He tried a comeback in 1991 at age 34 and he stunk. He couldn't win a set against journeymen.

Sure he was older (but Fed just won the Aussie at age 35) but in less than 10 years the game had totally changed.

Compare it's country club counterpart which seems timeless. Tom Watson almost won the British Open as a grandpa.

With it being more of a passing league now, Deion Sanders. He may not qualify though, he retire after 2000?

The game today needs a Baresi or Maldini though.

There's big and fast white guys still today but there's a reason there's not many playing RB at a high level

Wasn't even beast in the NBA back when the players weren't as skilled or athletic. So no, he wouldn't beast now. Maybe college he would be pretty good. But I don't think he'd beast. Not with the athletes of today.

Bird is a top 7 player of all time, but I don't think he'd ball out like he did in the 80's. And he is my favorite player ever. I just don't think he's athletic enough. Skill wise yes.

You bite your damn tongue when you speak ill of the Pistol! The Pistol would have been awesome in today's league of no-hand checking and high-octane offense.

Would still be just as dominant.

God, that guy was incredible. I love reading hockey records sometimes, just to remember how absurd he was.

Yep.

Especially at a course like Augusta where the long ballers aren't really the big advantage. Guys like Mike Weir can win it.

he averaged over 24 points a game for his career without a 3 point line. He was named one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all-time. You're an idiot

Yeah a healthy Maravich performed pretty darn well in the NBA. It just wasn't 44 points a game like in college. He entered the pro league with insane expectations.

Any great golfer from the past 50-70 years could likely compete today. They'd have to adapt to the technology, courses, etc. but most of the skills would translate.

Bonds. Even at 50. He could walk out there today and lead the league in OBP, OPS+ and probably hit .300 with 20 bombs.

Two different eras as you say

Bird would have a hard time in this current NBA, but who knows how Bird would have adjusted while being a high school player in the early 21st century compared to late 70's. He had what most of these current players do not have, and that is real swag. You could make the same point with Magic Johnson too if we went there as he was nothing great athletically at all.

Both players would have experienced a different upbringing where high schools have strength coaches and athletic training where these two would have probably taken advantage.

People still forget that before his back went out he was plenty athletic for someone his height.
