Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte has been suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, it was announced Tuesday.

Marte tested positive for Nandrolone, which violated MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension is effective immediately.

Yikes that's not good for Pittsburgh. Do they rush and call Austin Meadows up?

In a statement, Starling Marte cites "neglect and lack of knowledge'' for the positive PED test behind his 80-game suspension. #Pirates

That excuse though...

I swear it seems like that is the excuse every single time, "I didn't know it was banned, lack of knowledge" or the "I was told it was okay by some guy".

They 100% know, just own up to it right off the bat no one buys that shite.

I forgot it also means he is ineligible for the postseason if they make it.

They probably do. Even if they don't, it's no excuse.

Apparently Nandrolone is taken anally.

but

@JeffPassan Correction on Marte drug: Nandrolone rarely taken orally, but Deca Durabolin -- which can test + for Nandrolone -- is often orally consumed.

The "I didn't know it was illegal" excuse would be a lot more comical if he had to jam a pill up his a-hole.

He's also unavailable for any playoff games they may have.

I don't think people understand the length that teams go to get it across the these guys that you DON'T TAKE ANYTHING WITHOUT RUNNING IT PAST THEM FIRST.

It should be absolutely impossible to fail a drug test for PEDs...unless you're trying to be sketchy with what you take.
