bull shite. Churchill Downs is a venerable old stadium; a classic that can't be replicated if torn down.
bet you've never been. you seem like the kind of guy to bad mouth a place you can't get a ticket into.

What are the nicest race tracks in the country?
NY and Baltimore are pretty much old news. Is horse racing still mobbed up and dirty?
The country's populace has greatly expanded over 130 years to not be so NE centric.
Where would you choose the triple crown races to be held?
Kentucky, Southern California, and Florida?
I looked up attendance numbers, in 1975 over 78 Milllion people attended horse racing. That number was cut in half by 1997 and by Spring of 2015 it appears that only 8.24 million had attended a horse race in the past 12 months.
Now the last Preakness races at Pimlico have set attendance records, so are people just coming out for the event, for the social aspect of it? Just to be a part of the scene and not really much else?

I don't want any of the 3 moved.
I'm all for tradition.
I'm very against the talk lately of moving the Preakness to Laurel.
But look at the rest of the meet. Preakness weekend is all Pimlico really has.

Keeneland is the nicest track in the country by an extremely wide margin. They cater to an entirely different clientele. The only track to offer a live HD feed to their races. It's small bit upscale, women everywhere.
Saratoga is really nice but overrated. Gulfstream is nice.del Mar is my favorite small but clean and you can smell the ocean from the track which is pretty cool.
Pimlico is basically hamsterdam with horses in the backdrop

Are you stupid. Been many times..,hell, even in the winners circle and in the suites. Let's not act like Churchill is Del Mar, Saratoga, or Keeneland. They put million dollar suites on a pig with lipstick.

Saratoga is by far the best venue for horseracing. They let patrons bring in ice chests, booze, beer, whatever. It's the oldest sporting event in the country. Keeneland is next because of the beautiful scenery and quality of racing. Del Mar is pretty cool along with Santa Anita. If someone wants to go on a typical day, I'd suggest Oaklawn or Arlington Park

My grandparents while alive lived 2 blocks from Arlington....been to the old track (mafia set a fire in the kitchen) to the existing structure.
Wife and I will be making a trek to Saratoga this summer. Looking forward to it.

I went last summer for vacation but the husband put me to work. Was up there for the Whitney, but the only 2 races I saw were the 2 we were in.
:sigh:
It was on my bucket list and I never even saw inside the grandstands...
Just the backside, Oklahoma, the holding barn, paddock, and test barn
I came home more exhausted than before my vacation
Maybe I'll make it again soon.

There's not much of the "classic stadium" left.

Arlington has arguably the best turf course in the country. I remember when it burned down. Saratoga is beyond beautiful. Enjoy yourselves

Churchill for my money has the best turf course. The grass is really high and thick. Arlingtons is really nice too they keep it on poin

Where do they keep the guns they use to neutralize the horses with the broken bones?
Horse racing is cruel.
