The Jazz should just change their name to the Latter-Day Saints

props to you Rex I looked it up and your info is dead on, even said the "honeybee" is a state symbol for insects. so a trade for names would be automatic you would think.

If you are gonna give the "Jazz" name back to New Orleans, then the "Hornets" name needs to go back to Charlotte. The name is in homage to the city's resistance of British troops during the Revolutionary War.
Maybe Utah can have the Bobcats?

One of the biggest crimes in sports is the Jazz moving from NOLA to SLC. What kind of crappy owner would even consider a move to freakin Utah, even back in the 1970s? And what is even worst is they stole New Orleans' team name. There aint no frickin jazz in Utah. Those crooks and the NBA should be ashamed for letting that happen. They need to get a name of their own like Mormons, Polygamists, Bees, Salt Lakes, or something else beside Jazz.

As you can tell, I that state with a passion

I have no problem with sending the Lakers name back to Minnesota. It is the land of 10,000 lakes.

I think the best bet and what actually has a chance of being done is to prevent a team from keeping a name when it moves- a la Cleveland and the Browns.

We can even package BS, Bower, and 2/3rds of the roster for the name.

I know this thread is kind of a joke, but if the Hornets ever REALLY fall on hard times (CP3 wants out, attendance is lagging again, etc) it really might be worth Shinn's while to try and purchase the Jazz rights from Utah.

With Miller's death the Jazz might be sold and the new owner might be keen on re-branding his team to something more geographically friendly.

Problem is, Shinn named the Hornets himself and is probably eternally attached to the name. Only chance might be if Chouest ever gets the chance to buy him out and decides to pull the trigger.

Hornets really is a bullshite nickname for New Orleans.

as a kid I went to Jazz games in he dome, I now only refer to the team as Utah, but it has been extremely successful financially in Utah, so what should they be ashamed of?

I do npt understand why teams moving would want to keep the name anyway. Why not Rename and sell new mdse in the new town?
