Have you ever really thought about this?

Imagine a guy who is playing AND he's the coach. I mean, what happens if the pitcher is struggling? How does he talk to the bullpen? How does he know if a guy is ready?

How does he set up the lineup? "Ok I'm gonna bat 4th, all season"

What if he is in a slump? Would he bench himself?? The idea of a guy doin both is crazy to me.

What if he was late for a team meeting "I was late so I'm fineing myself"


AND ON TOP OF THAT, he had the time to bet on the games, haha

He was the last to do it, but far from the only one. Player-managers were common in MLB history.

Baseball was not nearly as "strategic" pre-90s. (This is also why baseball was more popular then bc games didn't last an eternity).
