I think BG was just scared of what might happen if he didn't deny the story. Remember that by the time that story came out, Harvin had already allegedly thrown a weight at Brad Childress after a confrontation. And had yelled at Leslie Frazier after a loss to the Seahawks.
Maybe he was scared of another choking.

Anything I've seen with Tebow and his teammates he talked about playing with passion and playing for each other. They weren't killing and fighting each other. So I think Tebow did an excellent job holding them together.
