Because he doesn't know when a team should go for 2.

I do, ESPN is competing with the NFL for his salary, the number makes sense.

Because they love them so much, I thought Stephen A. and Bayless would be at the top

I figured he was in that ball park

He just got an extension after being in the discussion for some college/pro teams head coaching gigs, I assumed it was in the same ball park for him to stay instead of pursuing those

he's basically going to be like Madden.

When a lot of people think of Madden, they think video games and football commentating, they forget he was a HOF coach.

Gruden will have a long career in broadcasting and people will forget he was a pretty good coach who won a super bowl

Gruden is also really good at what he does now and doesn't have to be in a damn football facility 25 hours in a day.

If his salary is really that big he will soon be on the chopping block due to the Disney demands of cost cutting at ESPN.

I think people would much rather the game announcers actually be present for the games they are calling than have 1,000 dumb segments where Gruden talks about how great everyone that comes to his "camp" is.

I presume large chunk of that salary is also from his off-season "Gruden Camp" segment and draft analysis.

$6.5 million for Chuckie to tell everyone what a great guy player X happens to be is a waste of money.

Guys like Bill Simmons and Colin Cowherd brought way more to the table than Gruden ever can/will and guess what? ESPN let them walk when their new contracts were about to come up.
