These two incidents (and their punishments) are hardly analogous .
the base of the Penn State defense was that the incidents that happened didn't relate to football directly so therefore the football program shouldn't be punished.

They also had free chances to transfer and not go there.

So if someone grew up a Penn State fan and is recruited by PSU, what does that guy do? If he really wants to go to PSU, what do you tell him? Sorry, if you come here you're getting punished for someone else's actions? Oh, but you could go somewhere else even though you really won't wanna go there.

Just drop some fine or some shite on the university and let the players play.

Classic example of a cult.

Again, take a drive through PA between Pit and Phi. There's literally nothing there, and PSU is right in the middle of it.

Sometimes in life you are dealt a shitty hand and have to deal with things that you had nothing to do with. Getting through it is called having character.

Well, that's obviously nonsense, but I also understand the "punish only those involved" argument. Of course, that's easier said than done.

That being said, I suppose the sanctions were the best course of action.

Watching a full blown cult of personality is both fascinating and terrifying

If they want a statue of Joe Paterno on their campus then fine let them have it. Who are we to say otherwise, we don't live there or have to live with it.

Come on man. People in that program knew their DC was having sex with boys from his charity, at the school, and covered it up. They should be happy to have a football program.

It's beyond sad that I agree with this instead of making fun of you.

So very true, but something about that whole scene is just eerie

He was no longer their dc after the 99 season.

All college football fans are cultists. Your perspective changes when you go from outsider looking in to participant.

You still don't get it.

It's called...embedding.

The first thing you hear regarding this scandal - you think it's forever gospel and the truth despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

No, not all football fans engage in hero worship or hold vigils at statues.
