The NFL crossed the rare 50 million viewer threshold for the latest chapter of the Chiefs-Bills rivalry.

Sunday’s Chiefs-Bills AFC Divisional Round playoff game averaged 50.39 million viewers on CBS, up 10% from Cowboys-49ers on FOX in the same window last year (45.66M) and the most-watched Divisional Round game on record. The previous record was 48.52 million for Packers-Cowboys on FOX in 2017. Keep in mind that out-of-home viewing was not included in Nielsen final nationals prior to 2020 (or measured at all prior to 2016), meaning that any number of Divisional games of past playoffs — particularly Packers-Cowboys in ’17 — would likely have done better all things being equal.

The Chiefs’ win, which peaked with 56.25 million viewers, ranks as one of just 12 non-Super Bowl television programs to top the 50 million viewer threshold since the series finale of NBC’s “Friends” in 2004 (52.2M). The NFL playoffs accounts for all 12, though the previous 11 were all AFC or NFC Championship games. (Excludes news events such as presidential debates.)

Chiefs v. Bills will always be appointment viewing as long as it’s Allen v. Mahomes.

Lots of remotes are being knocked over and turning on these games, just like during ESPN daily rhetorical shows.

Scruffy remembers.

Maybe there will be another thread on here of people bitching about the NFL while actively watching every game.

this is why the NFL needs Taylor Swift

They need the swifties to prop up the ratings because they know the super bowl will get slaughtered without them. The silent majority is planning a major boycott due to Lift Every Voice and Sing

The NFL doesn't give two shits about whether or not fans like the two teams playing...just as long as they watch. So get used to a 10 year run of Bills/Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

The silent majority? What in the actual frick are you talking about? 115 Million watched last years Super Bowl.112 Million watched the previous one. That song was sung before both of them.

Had out-of-home been included in Nielsen's viewership estimates in 2017 -- it was being tracked, but not included in the final nationals -- Packers-Cowboys would have topped the 54 million mark that year. So this is a record only because of methodological changes. (Still huge.)

True.

Playing a separate national anthem for black Americans before a NFL game is one of the best things the Wokesters can do to bring all Americans together.

But why stop here^^^ ? Why not a national anthem for Hispanics? Maybe white Americans of European descent? The Jews? Asians? We need absolute inclusivity.

I'm sure that's part of it, but don't really get it. Why would they watch just to see her cheering after a play for like 5 seconds 6-7 times per game?

This is why the Chiefs are guaranteed to make the SB. The swifties bring ratings and Goodell will make sure the Chiefs get all the calls

For anyone who hates the 5 second cutaways to Swift I can promise you it isn't going to stop. It doesn't bother me much but I get why it irritates some.
