Yeah, you're thinking of Guiton. He filled in a few games for Braxton last year.

Sadly he had all of his eligibility used otherwise he would have been a hot commodity on the transfer market as well.

the SEC requires you have at least 2 years of eligibility left to transfer into the conference

Would take him in Fayetteville in a heartbeat.

Is he going to go Russell Wilson on you.

Hope so, since Wilson decided to play for Bert

ETA: forgot about the SEC transfer rules

like that rule wouldn't get amended to fit in with a class signing of 35 people. Come on at least pretend to be realistic.

DESTIN, Fla. — The SEC is considering ending its graduate-student transfer ban. Three proposals from South Carolina are being discussed at the SEC spring meetings to put the SEC more in line with the NCAA rule that lets graduate students with eligibility remaining transfer to another school.

The NCAA adopted the rule in 2006 to allow graduates to transfer for their final year of eligibility as long as their new school has a graduate program the old school doesn't offer. The rule was seen as a carrot to athletes who graduate with eligibility left, but it has also been criticized as free agency in college sports.

The SEC applied the NCAA rule until 2011, when it opted out for one major reason: Jeremiah Masoli.

Masoli had graduated as an Oregon quarterback but got kicked off the Ducks team for disciplinary reasons. Ole Miss enrolled Masoli in a Parks and Recreation graduate program not offered at Oregon.

The NCAA initially denied Masoli's waiver to play immediately, but Ole Miss won its appeal and Masoli played in 2010. The rule also allowed former Utah cornerback Ryan Smith to play immediately at Florida in 2006.

After the Masoli affair, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said he wished every other conference would use the SEC's current policy, which requires athletes to have at least two years of eligibility left to transfer into the league. The SEC does provide some waivers to graduate transfers on an individual basis.

Thanks - I figured he could just ask for a waiver if he wanted to go the SEC.

I doubt the SEC would deny Miller if he wanted to transfer - he would obviously be a draw for the conference.

Oregon would be a good landing spot but that depends on how the staff views Mahalak and Griffin that are redshirting. Griffin transferred in from Georgia Tech as a triple option qb that we all assumed would play WR. However, the vibe is that he is progressing well.

I thought Masoli was accepted because of the parks and recreations degree that wasn't offered as a graduate program at Oregon. I am sure if there is a will there is a way...

Lot's of spare time in those parks to spark up, I guess.

They should put a clause in that won't allow players to transfer if they are in bad standing with their previous university. That seems to be the main issue.

What would be better for Braxton?
Go into draft based on past performance and take your NFL shot.
Transfer to another school, learn new offense, and take your chances with NFL after that.

He's not gonna get drafted very high.

He has serious health issues, and he doesn't have the touch IMO for the NFL.
Or the long ball.

He would be a better running back in the NFL but then health really becomes an issue.

I would think he would jump at the chance to play RB in college to show off his skills.

His best option is to be what guys like White from WVU never actually were, true guys who can run and pass. He can absolutely be the type of guy who can make an NFL roster, be a RB, but run a wildcat like nobody's business. The wildcat usually has no threat of a passing game, but he would at least present a moderate one

Yep. You probably don't beat MSU with Braxton. That would be my concern as well with him. Mariota and JT can hit those seam routes and Braxton couldn't. Although, watching Masoli in our offense was fun as hell when he was on.
