Money down the drain for the Os. I'm okay with that.

You got the MLB alert too? I just bumped the offseason thread. Wonder if they land Cespedes as well?

And the Royals just scooped up Ian Kennedy. Pitcher market is pretty much done.

HORRIBLE signing imo. Sure, some years the guy hits a respectable .250+ and drops 45+ bombs.

But he's only getting older and is prone to having a "wtf" season and hitting sub .200.

Really glad the O's resigned him. At least they have another power bat to team up with Adam Jones, gives them some stability.

lol, what a horrible deal

unless they front loaded the hell out of that deal, it's a "Howardesque" terrible of a deal. 7 years, lol

His body from the juice, will be broke down, in year 3.

I can't pretend to know what was really going on behind the scenes here, but it always seemed like the Orioles were bidding against themselves here.

There's really no benefit to front loading the deal for the team. Time value of money.

I agree this deal has Ryan Howard potential though.

Ryan Howard is likely still a very productive player if he doesnt tear his achilles. That's a death wish for a huge man like him. Coincidentally, that is also when he fell of a cliff.

As far as davis, im pretty sure they know what they are getting with him.

Howard's two seasons before tearing his Achilles were 1 WAR and 1.5 WAR. Certainly better than he was post injury, but still not near worth what he was being paid.

He's going into his age 30 season. He has ONE skill set, luckily for him its the most important one, but all he can do is hit for power. He's now going to be making the same as Joey Votto for the next 7 years.

The orioles are leveraging the future for the present, I can't say that its a bad thing, if you win. I just highly doubt Chris is worth this contract in any but maybe 2 of the 7 seasons.

Through his Age 29 season, his 5 most similar statistical comps are Richie Sexson, Cecil Fielder, Mark McGwire, GLEN DAVIS, and Lee May. The best aging pattern on that list is clearly Big Mac, but I doubt Davis has access to the same pharmaceutical supplier.

But the terrifying inclusion of Glen Davis makes me huddle in the corner and just shake. this is a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE deal with virtually no chance of working out. Hell, an unqualified success would be just two years of above average production.

Ugh.

he was still earning his pay hitting 30 HRs. Don't really care what his WAR. They paid the guy to hit HRs. He isn't a good example to compare Davis too
