Oprah Winfrey is "considering the possibility" of joining a group to buy the Clippers from owner Donald Sterling. The NBA's Board of Governors could force the team's sale by a 75 percent vote, at which point a bidding war would likely commence. Magic Johnson may also team up with Guggenheim Partners to vie for the team, which is expected to be valued at more than $1 billion. Early indications are that Sterling's wife will not retain control of the franchise, though his family has been specifically exempted from Sterling's lifetime ban.

Thoughts?

Does the legal process and whatever Sterling decides to do not need to play out before all of this sell the team stuff happens?

Of course it does, and he didnt break any laws so he's got a good case. Only problem is hes in his 80s and I'm not sure if he's willing to put up that kind of fight.

Plus it'll go for way other a billion dollars if it does sell. The bidding war will be ridiculous.

It's not going to happen unless they overpay by a crap ton. They will not be able to force him out and he's going to sue the @$%^ out of them if it does.

Dumb question, but Sterling would profit from the sale correct?

I have a pretty good feeling that all of these people jumping in line to buy this team think that they are going to get some big discount out of Sterling for their willingness to take the team off his hands amid all the controversy.

He admitted what he did, he didn't apologize and he has said the team isn't for sale....he doesn't give a single shite what anyone thinks and he damn sure isn't going to be a doormat in this process like everyone expects him to be.

Yes. He bought the team for a little over $10M and would sell it for as low as $1B, just from numbers I have seen being thrown around.

He should give most of the money from the sale away. He is entitled to a profit but anything over $5M isn't right. A 50% profit is more than enough.

This whole, "they must be owned by a black person!" movement is kinda disturbing.
