Lol. What a disaster.

It's not what I wanted, that's for sure. I understand the perspective of it should be for amateurs only; give them something to aspire to. That just doesn't interest me to terribly much as a fan. I don't feel like watching a ton of amateurs with handicaps in the Olympics. I want to see the bets of the best.
I think the Olympic committee did a poor job working with the PGA and USGA to make athletes feel like this is a big deal. People like Rory and Speith should be drooling over winning an Olympic medal, not viewing it as some ho-hum event that gets in the way of vying for majors. It should be the once in four years major of all majors.
ETA:
Fix could be the PGA and USGA sponsoring a multi-million prize for the gold medal, smaller for silver, and a 6-digit price for the bronze.

They aren't playing because of Zika not because of anything you said.

Complete and utter failure/disaster.

If they want to make golf more Olympic-like, they should make a new tournament like the Ryder cup. Golf doesn't need to be in the Olympics.

Don't worry Bubba will carry us

Only 2 players per country. It's fowler and kuchar.

Pretty sure it's four. If Spieth plays it will be Spieth Bubba Fowler and Reed

I was alluding to Dustin Johnson's statements that he's not taking it seriously, and the other big US tour players are not taking it seriously. He is at least staying in though.

I wasn't trying to be rude. I haven't seen anyone say they weren't taking it seriously. I wouldn't play an outdoor sport in an area where bugs are spreading Zika so I can't blame them for not wanting to.

What course are they playing in Rio? I imagine it being similar to Gus Wortham in Houston where you have to watch your back from the homeless if you hit it into a bush.

I hit a homeless guy passed out under a tree at Hermann Park once

I didn't think you were; just expounding since I went off the reservation without reference.

Many summer memories playing all day at Herman before the renovations. Now they have homeless overdosing on fake weed everywhere.

My apologies, it wasn't DJ, it was Adam Scott bitching.

"If the idea is to grow the game, I'd make an argument that having the amateurs in the Olympics would grow the game the most - not us," he said. "I think having a young golfer aspire to be an Olympian is more realistic as an amateur than a professional. ... I think looking at the big picture, putting the amateurs in would be a better result for growing the game, if that's the point of our sport being in the Olympics."
The other issue is making sure the Olympics fit in the landscape of professional golf.
Eligible players will have two majors and the Olympics in a span of five weeks, and then the four-tournament FedEx Cup playoffs.
"It's just kind of shoved in there at a very critical time for everything I've ever dreamed of winning," Scott said. "I think they've got to figure out how professional golf fits in that system better, whether that's a team event or stays individual, mixed team events, all of the above. But they should have a look at that because I think it'll continue to be a problem beyond these games."

If the Olympic Committee actually gave a shite about any of the athletes, they would have moved the games from the shothole that is Rio.
Fortunately for athletes in sports like golf and basketball, there's other opportunities to shine in their field and make money off their talents and hard work. But most of these athletes, this could be their only chance.
We're going to have rowers and such having to participate in vile water conditions.
If your city can't even be put above 3rd world conditions, you should automatically be out of the running for hosting the Olympic Games.

No it's 4
You're both right and wrong. Though Ryno's more wrong.
Each country gets 2, but the top 15 players in the world are automatic qualifiers. If a country has multiple players in the top 15, then they can have up to 4 of those players qualify.
The US had 6 with 2 withdrawing. Kuchar was #15, so he's in as the 4th. If any more withdraw, they won't add an additional US player (unless 3 withdraw) because they would be out of the top 15 and wouldn't be an auto qualifier.
