Kershaw in game 4 though. Wonder if we'll keep Shelby against him or counter with Waino...probably depends on tonights result.

Also read where Bernie Miklasz of the Post Dispatch said the Cardinals will be trading Oscar Taveras this offseason. Interdasting.

If we win tonight I think we have to go with Waino tomorrow

And I wouldn't mind trading Oscar, I can't stand his swing mechanics and he has almost no plate discipline at all.

Plus with gridchuk's (sp?) looking promising along with Jay having a career year they probably feel they can't part with Oscar

I've also heard through the grapevine several times that Oscar doesn't behave/play with the attitude that our organization demands of its players. Nit playing through minor aches/pains, not giving it 100%, etc. I have no idea if that is true or not but I've heard it from ppl within the organization

I just don't know what we go for by trading him though.

He will still warrant a very very high return in a trade, and unless we're going after a RFer we don't need anyone. No reason to trade Taveras for another starter when we have Waino Shelby Wacha Lackey Martinez Gonzalez.

And in the field you don't really need anything unless you're going to do a package deal and trade Taveras+ a starter in the field for a large upgrade at that position.

Tonight is why Lackey was acquired. See if he can produce. Need to jump on a rusty Ryu early.

Yea, thats been brewing all season. Dont think Taveras is going to fit in here in the long wrong.

Bingo.

Its been pretty widely known all season. Rumor also had him being shopped hard at the deadline with no real good deals being offered in return.

Dont be surprised if he is moved for quite a bit less then many Cards fans think he is worth. Word travels fast about players like this.

The rumor and possibility has always been around Oscar, but Bernie just flat out said he's being traded this offseason. As if the decision has been made.

It's just a matter of wtf we want in return, starting pitching is a big no need. And guys like Wong, Holliday, Molina, Peralta, and Marp are set in stone. And I doubt they want to move Adams at this point so add him behind those.

That leaves you trading Oscar for CF or RF, and including either Grichuk, Jay, or Bourjos in that trade.

Yea, Im not sure what this teams needs are going ot look like next season. Its crazy how you bring in a guy like Peralta and all of a sudden a long standing need is filled, at least for a couple seasons.

I think the team needs to look at long term: CF, SP(2-3), 1B and start to think about Holliday out in RF and SS.

I see what you are saying and idk either but I wouldn't mind getting a high caliber guy for the bullpen and maybe it's another trade like freese's where we get an unknown guy like grichuk, who knows

I agree with kilo that if we trade him we will likely get a good bit less than what a lot of our fans think he's worth

CF and RF for the next few years are pretty much it. Grichuk is a platoon player and bench bat, so someone has to go with Taveras out of him and Jay/Bourjos.

Likely be Bourjos on the move with Oscar.

Ehhhh, Grichuk isn't an every day starter and isn't going to become one. Plus he's a CFer where there is already a log jam.

Game 4 will be 4:07 p.m. St. Louis time. Kershaw will start on short rest. Matheny insisted (again) Wainwright will not. Kershaw vs Miller.

He might stuck to his guns and start Shelby, I wouldn't mind it he's been great lately

ETA: if you have confidence in Shelby (no reason not to) then maybe you risk it to potentially set up Waino to start game 1 of the NLCS

Im not convinced of this yet but he has to learn the strike zone or it will be a certainty.

I don't think it's likely but I still think it's too early to say for sure
