No Coyotes game tonight, so might as well watch Hanzal and White.

What did we get back though?

Shatty has been very good to the city of St. Louis and a constant in the community, sad to see him go

Shattenkirk wouldn't sign a long term deal, this is merely a rental.

Not much more you could expect as a blues fan in that situation.

The caps don't have a 2018 2nd rounder due to the Eller trade

Something ain't right

His refusal to sign an extension really tanked his trade value. It sucks, but there was no point hanging onto him. Is Sanford any good?

I read it's conditional.

Not sure how that applies here

Apparently.. if they acquire one it goes to stL.

Else.. two picks in 2019

That may have been a joke idk.

Wild win in OT. Great game

Granlund just schooled the LAK in OT off the first face off.

Stars trading away players when they should be firing coaches. Kinda showing that Ruff and Nill will still be holding the reigns next year.

For the love of God, Holland, do not resign Smith for over $3m a year.

Well, this is it. The Caps have gone all in. Realistically, this is the end of the window for the team as currently constructed. TEN players are in their contract year, and not everyone can get a raise. Next year's team will be good, but it won't be the juggernaut that's been constructed. This is the Caps last best chance to win a Cup, so they are acting like it.

Considering the trade market so far and the absurd prices paid for Burrows and Hanzal, the Caps committed highway robbery. Zach Sanford in a nothing prospect and this is a lousy draft, and at BEST, the Blues just acquired the 26th overall pick, and maybe as late as #31 (please let it be #31).

The Caps already lead the league in fewest goals allowed and have one of the best power plays on earth. and now they have a defensive depth chart that looks like this:

Niskanen-Orlov
Shattenkirk-Alzner
Carlson-Orpik
Schmidt

Their top pair from last season, and the #2 pairing on the US national team, is the Caps THIRD pairing. Now, I think Orpik is wildly overrated, but as a 6D? Holy crap.

The Caps now have a problem on their power play that they will bench either Carlson, Orlov, or Shattenkirk. That's insane.

This Caps team is ridiculously loaded. I have no idea how they will blow this, but I know they will.

ETA: Final note on the trade, because the Blues included Copley in the deal, the Caps got Oshie from the Blues for nothing. They traded Brouwer (who left as a FA), Copley, and a 3rd rounder for Oshie. The Caps got the 3rd rounder back from another trade, and now get Copley back. Oshie was essentially free. I will now avert my eyes from staring directly at McLellan's GM brilliance.
