good news is he played fantastic at begining and end of year with 3 crappy months in the middle. I attribute some of that on teams apathy with pigface coaching. he is still 5th in GAA and 6th in save %. we need more offense.

they were loaded last year. more so this year. holtby has been good for years now. getting better and better. they got shattenkirk. their really is no excuse for them to not play for the cup this year or win it all.

Hawks have lost 4 straight, awful momentum heading into the post season, and the caps are the caps.

A lot of weird start times today. I thought for sure there would be a game on NBC this afternoon. Please, please let some other network outbid them when their rights are finally up.

This year's team is better. A lot better. There's also a lot of free agents on the tea, so this is pretty much the window. Now or never.

And while the Boudreau Caps definitely lost to a bunch of team they shouldn't have (they were 10+ standing points ahead of the Pens in 2009 and Habs in 2010, and 4 points ahead of the Bolts in 2011), that hasn't really been the MO since Boudreau left. And to be fair, the Caps had Tom Poti in their top defensive pair up until 2010, and Shaone Morrisson on their second pair with Justin Schultz. They have radically improved their blueline.

Since then, the Caps have only once lost to a team behind them in the standings: last yer against the Penguins, who won the Cup. To call this incarnation of the Caps a bunch of chokers is to also admit that the Caps are a better team than the Penguins.

Now, the Caps do often find excrutiating ways to lose. Their Game 7 history is mind bogglingly awful. But they rarely lose to far inferior teams. They lose to closely matched teams in the worst, most painful way possible. the reason 2010 Habs series stands out so much is because of how different it is from the usual Caps postseason exit.

This team is loaded. It leads the league or is at least top 5 in nearly every metric you can possibly come up with. They are deep at nearly every position, and have superstars at the top of the top of those charts. And there's no way they will be able to afford this same team next year. This is it, and everyone knows it.

The Caps have now earned more standing points in two consecutive seasons than any team since the 1976-8 Canadiens. A Stanley Cup will secure their place as one of the best teams ever assembled. A loss, of any sort in any round, will be the bitterest of disappointments. It really is Stanley Cup or bust, literally. Because after this year, this team scatters to the wind.

Sobotka scored. Give us the Cup. Might as well not even play the Playoffs anymore.

Sobotka scores in his first game back. Now Tarasenko with #39. Holy hell, Avalanche are a mess. How long is their rebuild?

Damn. Tarasenko missed #40 with empty net. I dunno if he is really superstitious, but Allen's mask needs some artwork on it. Bring on the Wild. So glad to avoid Blackhawks in 1st round.

Sobotka #1 star of game. I did not know KHL rinks were bigger.
