NFL Draft was Great Back When it Was on Saturday

Watching the NFL Network special on the 2005 draft. Brings back some great memories.

There was nothing like waking up after a hard drinking Friday night in college and watching the draft all day Saturday with your boys. I'll never forget those mid-00s drafts.

Also the lack of social media made it a lot of fun to watch.

I never have gotten the infatuation with the draft. The excessive coverage for 4 months leading up to it is unbearable.

The coverage leading up, yes, is nauseating. But that first round is an event itself and is fantastic television.

Upvote!

It's was one of my favorite weekends of the year. I'd have like 4 draft magazines on the coffee table with snacks and I'd sit there from pick one until the last pick.

Starting on Thursday is retarded.

This.

Even when the NFL wasn't dogshite...like back in the 90's...the draft was like watching a 1st down, every 20 minutes.

It was just all talkie-talkie by people (ESPN) wtf? do they know?

And draft grades two minutes after the draft? How about 10 years from now Mel?

I like it on Thursday but I wish they aired the first two rounds on Thursday.
That was the only positive thing for having it on Saturday, you could watch multiple rounds.

Prime time draft ruined what was great about the draft.

Nothing better than getting up early in the morning, making coffee on a Saturday, grilling, having friends over and watching the draft all day.

Prime time draft is terrible.

I miss the old format too. Used to be, a GM had to be able to think on the run, and make quick decisions when the guy you coveted got picked right before you could get him. Not everyone could do that; lotsa reaches happened back then, especially in the middle rounds.

Now, everybody has time to calmly make a decision. It just isn't quite as fun to watch.

Remember when the Vikings couldn't turn in their draft picks on time...2 years in a row?

I go running by where the draft is gonna be this year. The amount of money they spend on just the set up is obscene. They have been building for a couple weeks

Also pissed off a ton of people by making the Rocky steps inaccessible for a month.

The Saturday and Sunday drafts were best.

I remember when the draft was during the day in the middle of the week. I recall going to my high school library between each class to see who the Saints took in the 1986 draft. They killed it the first three rounds.

Back in my day it was great when it was 75858584 rounds long and the players had to walk in the snow.

It's mostly terrible now because they spoil the pick before it's announced at the podium

So which idiot from Ole Miss can we count on again to make the draft interesting this year?
