Fertitta, who closed on the deal last Friday, said he would consider bringing an NHL team to Houston either as an owner or landlord if the numbers could work.

"I would put an NHL team here tomorrow," Fertitta said. "This one has got to work. But I'd love to have the other dates in the building. Do I want to see Toyota Center filled up 300 nights a year? Definitely. We'll do whatever we can do, but whatever we do has to make sense.

"Will we be aggressive? Yes. That's my nature."

The NHL's Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and Arizona Coyotes have often been considered candidates to move either with debt or arena issues, or both. Seattle and Quebec City have been interested in attracting an expansion team as well but NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has said the league is not in the expansion mode at present after adding Las Vegas.

The Panthers 100% need to leave South Florida. Their attendance is terrible.

Coyotes probably need to leave too.

Carolina will be fine.

There is a lot more that goes into than that. Dont let the Thrashers move to Winnipeg fool you. The NHL is absolutely opposed to moving teams. And Bettman put that team in Arizona. He aint moving them.

So what should happen is either 1) a team moves to Houston and gives Dallas a real rival (Arizona would be a good candidate, but now with Vegas nearby they could develop their own rivalry), or 2) Gaglardi moves the Stars to Seattle which is closer to his home base.

As much as I'd love one in Houston, Quebec City is the better place for one. They'd support it even when the team is arse and I don't think Houston will

The rockets are middle the road in attendance. The problem is that every seat in the lower bowl is corporate owned.

Why do you seem so insistent that the Stars are going to move? Jesus dude, give it a break.

Quebec City and Seattle would be better spots and deserve the first shots, but if Houston can somehow land the Coyotes or Panthers, I think it'd still be a very positive move for both the franchise and the city.

I would definitely go to a few games a year and follow them and the NHL. I have family in DC and have been to Caps games with them and it's awesome. I just can't make myself follow a sport and league where I have no rooting interest

Bettman definitely wants the Coyotes in Phoenix area. He threatened to move them somewhere else in Phoenix/Glendale last year. I don't see them leaving. How well would Houston support a NHL team?

They used to have an IHL team called the Aeros which did pretty well for a little bit, but I think attendance slouched after awhile even though they were winning.

Fertitta said the attendance was about 3-4k before they left the Compaq center (now Joel Osteen church), and he'd want to be pretty certain the stadium would be full much of the time.

I tend to believe an NHL team would fare better than the Aeros did as an IHL team. I know my family would go when I was younger and I don't follow the NHL in any way.
