Will preface this by saying that I am no NBA expert. However, as a person who watches a lot of basketball and has played basketball for a good number of years, I am very intrigued by the MVP race this year, which we all know is basically between Westbrook and Harden (Kawhi is a close third, but stat stuffing has been glorified this year so I would be surprised if Kawhi won it).

Personally, if I had a vote, I would vote Harden. During the regular season, Westbrook had a lower FG percentage (.425 vs .444), a lower 3 point percentage (.343 vs .347), less assists (840 vs 907), a lower scoring efficiency (1.318 vs 1.537), a lower shooting efficiency (.476 vs .525), and though Harden has less points (2558 vs 2356), Westbrook took 408 MORE SHOTS than Harden (1941 vs 1533). Oh and the Rockets are up 2-0 in the playoff series due to Westbrook shooting them out of the game in the fourth quarter.

Discuss.

Nothing to discuss here except for the fact that you're an idiot. That's all.

You used stats. Man, those Russ fans are stats wizards. Like Magik cards online or something. They will throw stats right back at you.

Here is the bottom line. Head to head Rockets won more games against them. Harden was great in those games. Rockets are a better team: Harden is the major reason why. Rockets have a better organized offense than OKC: Harden is the major reason why (along with Dantoni putting him in that position). Harden has beaten all expectations at Point Guard running that offense this year by all accounts. Triple doubles I could give 3 fricks about.

Leonard though. Don't dare think he isn't worthy. He is a better defender than both and he is ruthless against the games best player named Lebron James. If I had to give an honest award I'd give it to Leonard as he is the best defender in basketball in my eyes and does more with less volume than just about anybody in the league. He is highly efficient.

If you pick Harden after honestly watching this Thunder team, you're stupid.

Houston wins 50+ games without Harden

OKC is competing for the #1 pick without Russ.

I'm just here to point out the following stats.

After 2 playoff games:

Kawhi Leonard 20/28, 69 points
Russell Westbrook 23/66, 73 points

Pop has a great system, one of the best.

Helps having 2 about 4 HOF players playing along side of you.

But this is moot, Russell will win the MVP as votes are already turned in.

I mean I agree.

Points are virtually a wash.. Westbrook #1 and Harden #2.. but Harden scored WAY more efficiently. (61.3% ts% for Harden compared to 55.4% for Westbrook).

Harden lead the league in assists.

Westbrook averaged 10 rebounds and Harden averaged 8. Who cares especially considering Westbrook's team purposely let him grab open rebounds by design.

And Harden had much more team success than Westbrook.

You are blind or didn't watch the game. They were up big until Westbrook took a one minute breather.

By all means let's cherry pick irrelevant stats with microscopic amounts of difference.

Up big? 12 points was the Thunder's largest lead all game

Are you being serious?

I have no issue with someone saying Harden had more to work with but you are crazy if you really think they would have won 50+ without him.

True, but his point still stands.

HOU was the equivalent of a 50 win team with Harden off the court, but that doesn't mean they would win 50.

OKC was the equivalent of an 18 win team. That main premise still stands to illustrate the difference in the 2 supporting casts.

There's no question that the rockets without harden are much better than the thunder without Russ.

But 50 wins? No way in hell.
