i really do not understand how people get into this. ur sitting there watching cars go around in circles, yea they're goin really fast, but i don't understand why it's so big.
NASCAR =

I know a lot of engineering types into it for the technology of the cars or the pit crews use to increase performance. That's the only appeal I could fathom for NASCAR.

It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. My roommate takes up half our damn tivo with that shite, it's torturous.

i just don't know how its considered a sport.

Go to a race and then comeback and say you don't like it. There's a lot more goin on than cars just driving in a circle.

I had similar views until I started watching it regularly in 2004. my roommate was a huge fan so i gave it a chance.
I picked a driver, then kinda became invested in the driver like i'm invested in LSU or the Saints. it greatly added to my enjoyment of the sport as I had someone to root for.
then i started hating guys who fricked over my guys. also added to it, almost as much as liking a guy.
i dont know, i mean its like anything...some like it, some hate it. who gives a shite?

"who gives a shite"
I could careless who doesn't like it.
It does irk me when ppl say drivers aren't athletes. You could put a NBA player, MLB player, or golfer in a race car, in a firesuit, and make em drive a 500 mile race in July and I guarantee they say that's the hardest workout they've ever had.

this pretty much sums it out. the in race "drama" and season long "drama" is a big draw.

You are assuming they don't crash and die

Excluding Dale Earnhardt Sr, name one other driver that has died while racing.

I can name probably 7 or 8, but he can't, and that was the point of the question. It is so rare, that his question shouldn't have even been asked.

Smyce said it perfectly. NASCAR is much easier to get into if you pick a favorite driver to follow. But, more importantly, you have to have a driver that you truely can't stand and wish will wreck each race.

adam petty, kenny irwin jr, jd mcduffie...would you like me to keep going?
that being said, i can name several more that have been so fricked up by crashes they couldn't drive a race car...or any car again for that matter.

Quit being a douche, He's not talking about professional drivers, he talking about a fricking "balla" trying to drive the COT 500 miles at 190 mph, grant it they probably won't die, but very likely to crash...
Cliff Notes, Quit being a douche arse

My apologies if I came across as a douche. I was pointing out the fact that driving a race car takes more of a toll on your body than playing other sports. His response was "if they don't crash and die". Dying in a race car probably happens less often then being struck by lightning. That said,
