Terry Bradwhaw is the first one I think of.

Jake Plummer definitely had a few red flags coming out of ASU but he played for a decade and went to a Pro Bowl. His 4 yrs in Denver were waaaaaaaaaay better than his 6 with the Cardinals.

I never thought of Favre as the "character issue" type while he was at USM. Other than some partying during his Freshman and maybe Sophomore years... I thought he mended his rep after that.

yeah what was the deal with Favre?

I remember he got into a bad automobile accident the summer before his senior year at USM. But there was no alcohol involved right?

Southern Miss beat Alabama at Legion Field in the opener that same year.

i also remember the story about how he was puking on the field (hungover) before a game but ended up leading a comeback win? I don't know.

Dolphins take Marino

Listen as Paul "Dr Z" Zimmerman and others allude ever-so-subtly to rumors about Marino's off-the-field issues

I think so.

I definitely remember hearing about Southern Miss beating Alabama at Legion Field. We were about to play a little league game at the park and someone's mom spilled the beans.

some kid on our team started crying. The coach didn't let him play.

what can I say... people take football too seriously sometimes.

Was gonna ask what were Cam's character issues because I assumed everyone was talking about the rumors of his dad asking for money. Completely forgot about the laptop stuff.

Troy Aikman had a rep of being a diva in college. It's why he transferred from OU to UCLA.

I'll never forget the shite storm that ensued after the Cam Newton recruiting thing came out.

holy frick.

there was some grand manifesto on the SEC Rant. As The Plains Burn. I think it was.

but yeah, he had a stacked deck against him.

a lot of people took a shot at him.

Nolan Nawrocki wrote a scathing scouting report about him for ProFootball Weekly.

I've never seen anything like it.

watching Elway-to-Marino in the 30-for-30 series was pretty amazing.

the media would have probably not have had that much to say about Marino pre-draft these days.

most likely... a TMZ story that would have died after like a week.

one of the few instances where it seems like the media chatter and the pre-draft scrutiny wouldn't have mattered?

I mean what did they have on Marino back then... exactly?

was there any credible proof though? Seems like it just hit the rumor mill back then.

and hitting the rumor mill back then seems just as ridiculous than the 24/7 news cycle we get today.
