that's great.

How's the rest of your family doing? I mean as long as the MSB is now the "let me tell you useless bullshite" board, let us know.

I watched Tony Robichaux give a speech to a bunch of high school baseball coaches and at one point he started to go in on travel ball and then stopped himself because his wife warned him about his blood pressure. He talked about how he can't stand "guaranteed number of games" and that these guys are playing games without ever learning how to play ball. They're just playing 1,000 games incorrectly. Was pretty interesting to listen to.

My travel ball playing cousin is about to get either paid out the arse or a full ride to a D-1 school of his choosing. But good on your nephew.

I don't see how this is a knock on travel ball. I mean it's not like your local playground is going to have top-notch instruction.

So unless you are replacing travel ball with some kind of private instruction from former professional players, I don't see how playing local playground ball is any better.

Probably because he's not a candidate for Tommy John.

I'll never understand why dipshits have their kids playing/obsessing over baseball when Golf exists

Well it is a knock on travel ball because parents are paying thousands of dollars for their kids to get the best instruction, rather than $50 at their local park, and they're not really getting that. I don't think travel ball is necessarily a bad thing, I played select soccer, I do agree that the games need to be cut down and practices need to be ramped up.

His point was that as a coach your job is to teach accountability and responsibility above other things. When you go to a tournament at Disney and you're guaranteed 6 games and a trip to a theme park, you're not really getting that.

Guaranteed games is the worst part of the "entitlement culture" that people love to bitch about, not the trophies at the end of the year.

7 of the 14 kids on my U14 USSSA non-travel team played high school baseball.

The notion that travel ball is the "only" way to make a high school team is a myth.

Travel ball has its virtues and I recognize them, but league ball is nowhere near as worthless as SOME people say it is.

I'm no expert but I imagine kids who make their HS team would make it regardless of whether they played travel ball or not.

Not going to happen.

No school is giving 100% baseball scholarships.

Had a co-worker post on FB her son threw 10 innings last weekend for his travel ball team. Now anyone who has watched little league knows these kids do not have efficient innings.
So even if he managed 20 pitches an inning he threw 200 pitchers over a 2-day tournament.
