What's y'alls opinion of the guy? I've never really met anyone that didn't like him. He's an unashamed homer which I appreciate and he doesn't sugarcoat things. He knows his stuff but doesn't come off as cocky like Stephen A and Bayless as well as others. Plus he produces the 30 for 30 docs which are outstanding.

He knows basketball....sort of, other than that he's just a comedian in a sports context. When I've heard his interviews or step-ins during games, he just jokes the whole time, doesnt sound serious or intelligent.

The Book of Basketball is still one of the best things I've read in regards to sports books. His homerism showed a good bit (devoting a whole chapter as to why Russell is better than Wilt), but I enjoy the majority of the articles he, and other writers, do on his Grantland site

He's pretty savvy and humerous at times...his hate for the Lakers gets a little over the top though, just comes off as a petty

Read the book of basketball. He knows basketball.

I kind of compare him to Coldplay. Really great at what they do, but not "cool" anymore so they get tons of hate.
In this analogy, Stephen A. Smith would be Nickelback, Rick Reilly would be Aerosmith, and Klosterman would be Arcade Fire.

Reading through that I kept thinking how much research he had to do for that until I saw his acknowledgements at the end and that in and of itself was like a book with how many different resources he used

Yeah, it was a very good book.

He pretty much created a genre. He was a game changer. And I still enjoy his writing as long as it isn't about Boston teams.

Didn't he more or less invent sports blogging? That makes him pretty cool in my book.

It's gone to shite the last few years. It's more VF/US Weekly than sports.
