Looking to upgrade in the next few months for Spring. What are you guys hitting or looking to purchase?

I've looked into the M2, 917D2/D3, and Ping G drivers. I've heard the M2 is a great safe pick for forgiveness/distance so I'm leaning to that. I've also heard the new Callaway GBB Sub Zero will be a very good club when it's released.

Any thoughts?

If I upgrade, it'll be to the Callaway Epic

Any of these clubs can be great with the correct fitting.

If you're going to spend $500 on a new driver, you should get fitted so it meets your specs. I got fitted for an M1 last year and love it much more than the Titleist drivers I had been playing for years.

Get fitted. I did this last year and ended up with the M2 with the stock stiff shaft. It spun 700 RPMs fewer for me than any other head. Pro was surprised by the results as the Ping was the lowest spinning for most players he fitted. That 700 RPMs was 8 years more carry and 15 total longer than anything else I hit, including my prior driver

I planned on hitting all of my options before purchasing anyhow, but any recommendations on places to get fitted in BR area?

I did mine in Houston because I was there on business. I think the best around here is James Leitz

Anybody tried the Wilson Staff Triton from the TV show "Driver vs. Driver"?

The most important part of the driver for the average golfer is the shaft. I still play the Taylormade R15 with the Fujikura Speeder 661 Evolution shaft. It suits my swing.

The head of the club is like the exterior of a car. The shaft is the engine. Pay attention to the shaft. Lots of "good" clubs come stock with inferior shafts.

and? unless i'm trying to qualify for the us open, i'm on the course paying greens fees to have fun.

ETA: if you are a strict rules guy, to you. i'm more of a "let's have fun" guy.

L.A. is correct. Having a good shaft will help you more than any brand of driver. I have played a bunch of different drivers, and my distance only really picked up significantly when I went and got fitted for a good shaft.

Even for advanced players. When I was a scratch golfer I played around with shafts a lot, finally settled on extra stiff graphite for the irons and titanium for the driver. Sadly I can't bend extra stiff anymore.

Never could get settled on one for the putter so I just went with a wood shaft for it.
