MMA - UFC 224 8pm FOX then PPV & Bellator 199 9pm Paramount, CMTV

This weekend is UFC 224 in Brahzeeel.
Bellator 199 and UFC 224 are both on this weekend and ironically, Bellator may get the same viewership or more than the UFC. Not much hype for this UFC event, altough I happen to like the card.
Bellator has the last of the opening round of its grand prix, with Bader v King Mo. This will be, or should be, a very good fight. I believe it'll be Bader v Fedor in the final. Just a hunch. But you can put a large sum of money on it.
UFC has a women's title fight and a title eliminator on the men's side with Jacare Souza v Kelvin Gastelum at middleweight. Also has Vitor Belfort (non TRT version) v Lyoto Machida. Vitor says it's his retirement fight. But also gave some crazy quote about retirement that no one understood, so maybe he's headed to Bellator?
UFC has cut Yair Rodriguez which is shocking. A couple years ago he was seen as an upcoming star. Hasn't fought in a year, currently ranked around 11th in featherweight, last fight was a beatdown from Frankie Edgar. Looks like he turned down a fight with Lomas, who was ranked slightly above him, and turned down a fight with Zabit, ranked slightly below him. For a guy that hasn't fought in a year and was given a good opportunity to fight a legend in his last fight, that's not a good look. Maybe the UFC said 'frick yo couch' and cut him for being an obstinate little prick.
Pennington v Nunes for women's bantam title. Both made weight and both looked good and healthy, though Nunes seemed relieved to make weight. I suspect she forgot to calibrate the scale she was using during her cut or something like that.
McKenzie Dern the BJJ prodigy thought to be a star in the UFC - missed weight by 8lbs, 7lbs if you account for the float they give. Born and raised in 'Murica. Her father is Brazilian, and a legend in BJJ. She speaks portugese and has spent a couple years in Brazile growing up. But somehow, despite growing up primarily in the US, speaks terrible English. Her father speaks better English. Lot of people think she's faking her accent. I agree. She seems overrated for sure. She's matched up against Amanda Cooper for UFC 224. Cooper looks pretty good, and she made weight. Dern did not. Looks like the fight will still go on but Dern gives up 30% of her show money. That's a massive pay cut and I suspect she's going to lose this fight anyway. She has terrible striking and Amanda can box pretty well. I think Amanda is going to KO fatass Dern in Round 1.
You can tell from the pic that Dern is carrying some pounds. UFC needs to tell her that she's a 125'er and that's that. Probably should start calling her 'big rig'.

Dern has been running her mouth leading up to this fight, talking about getting the submission on Cooper, representing Brazil, stuff like that. She may as well have posted a bukkake video of herself because she is wearing it today.
Most of the time when a fighter misses weight, the UFC takes 20% of their show money. If the fight still happens, generally they just give that show money to the opponent. I can't remember what happens when the fight does not move forward.
In this case, the athletic commission in Brazil also has a policy where, if the fighter's weight moves into the next division up they won't allow the fight. I think Dern came in at 123.4 exactly, so she was 1.6lbs from the fight not even being allowed. Also, this athletic commission takes 10% of the show money if the fighter misses weight. So that's how Dern gets to 30% loss of the show money.
Amanda Cooper is making bank here. The UFC will probably (been reported) give her that 20% and the athletic commission has agreed to give her their 10% - so she's getting 30% of Dern's show money. Cha ching!

The thing is, Mackenzie isn't trying to hide anything. When I went down there to do a story on her, she basically said that she doesn't intend to train all that much. She prefers the beach or the club to the gym.

On the Yair Rodriguez thing - he made some tweets regarding potential fights over the past few months and called them 'fake news'. I guess he was trying to flex his muscles in front of the UFC in turning down these fight offers. When he was let go Dana White said he had no use for Yair and called it 'real news'. Clearly Yair went and pissed in the Cheerios.

One other bit of tid...
Conor tried to apologize to Rose Namajunas for the bus attack. Rose has had some trauma in her early life, which is needed context here I think.
The bus driver was trying to back up and out of the arena when Conor threw that hand truck. Had the bus sat still that hand truck would have gone through her window, not the window in front of her. She was a bit fricked up from that incident. Her fiance is Pat Barry, a former UFC heavyweight and a pretty remarkable kickboxer. He's one of her coaches, is in her corner, and was on the bus with her at that time. When Conor apologized he did it via Instagram. Rose's reply:
frick that, talk to Pat.
Word has been that Pat was pretty livid about the situation, like just everyone else on the bus.
There may be some fireworks at future UFC events. I don't expect this stuff to just fade away. People are angry at Conor.

But somehow Dern made weight last time. If you look at her from UFC 222 you can see a few differences - gut sticks out some like she had a full meal, definitely holding more water etc this time. I really wonder if she just went to the beach and the club like that tweet said. If she loses this fight, UFC may tell her go to 125 or go back to Invicta with a stayover in fat camp.

Angela Hill ripped Dern over twitter and said Dern has fought twice since Hill's last fight and that Hill has been trying to get back in there. Hill thinks UFC hasn't booked her because she's not as popular but contends she is at least professional enough to make weight. I can't argue with Hill on that. Problem of course is that Hill was injured so I don't know how much of a roadblock that was for her.
In the replies to Hill, a guy mentioned that Dern also missed her flight to Rio and showed up a day late. Might be true. Dern doesn't show up in Brazil on the Embedded videos until a day after everyone else, from what I can tell.

It's nothing to debate. There's video on YouTube of her speaking perfect English in a Cali white girl accent then as she gets more into this fight scene progressing into the "how you sayyyyy... zzzhooo zzzhitsu?" fake Brazilian shite. She used an interpreter in her post fight interview with Rogan.

On the UFC weigh-in show on Fox, Tyron Woodley even went off on her. He was like, "seven pounds, that's just crazy".
