ESPN

quote:

Owners also loved Manfred's reorganization of the minor leagues in 2020, and in the past decade, franchise valuations have more than quadrupled. Not surprisingly, billionaires want in, and expansion is coming. "I would love to get to 32 teams," Manfred tells me.

According to the article on ESPN with Rob Manfred, it sounds like the league will expand to 32 teams by 2024? The question is where? If Oakland and Tampa both result in relocations, what cities are on the radar?

Oakland to Las Vegas?
Tampa to Nashville?

Expansion Candidates:

Austin
San Antonio
Portland
Charlotte
Louisville

I cant imagine Astros and Rangers will allow Austin

Raleigh would be better than Charlotte IMO
Maybe Salt Lake is ready for another major sports franchise?

Here we go again with people always thinking Texas team owners have that much power. Texas and Houston cant decide by themselves. Good thing they aren't the only ones to have a vote and only require a certain percentage to pass. Austin/San Antonio will get more pro sports in the future...NOTHING they can do about it.

How many expansion teams have Austin and SA gotten in the last 30 years?

MLB needs to get rid of teams, not add.

Would love to see them get rid of the franchises in Oakland, Minnesota, Tampa, and Miami.

Need more teams out west but unless Vegas gets an enclosed stadium, it would be a horrible spot for a team.

Could they not play in the brand new football stadium they just built?

MLB will push hard to keep Oakland/Tampa where they are and do expansion in Nashville and Vegas IMO. Both seem unsolvable though.

Oakland is currently doing anything and everything they can to move out of that place, and the Raiders haven’t played there in 3 years

Oakland is as good as gone...MLB just announced they would waive their relocation fee. You need to catch up. Oakland IS moving to Vegas.
