Could have a deal friday

In Chicago, the best part of a World Series Game 7 is it moves the Cubs closer to an opportunity to provide clarity to the biggest move of their offseason.

Major-league sources say the Cubs, who have been in discussions this week with free-agent manager Joe Maddon, could have an answer by Friday. Either they will land Maddon, finding the perfect manager for their multiyear rebuilding mission, or they will have swung and missed, leaving them with a mess on their hands with incumbent Rick Renteria.

They have some young studs on that team.

Hopefully they can pick up a few more pieces.

How long until the Cubs get penalized for tampering?

Will he be the missing piece of the puzzle?
We'll see...

I think the Rays will definitely file something, I assume they would be fined and docked draft picks or something but it seems impossible to enforce

Don't think they will.

Borrowing this thought from BN, but I assume the tampering claim woudl be that the cubs said 'hey we'd like to have you manage, before he opted out of his TB deal. But you don't need the cubs to tell you that maddon was underpaid in a bad baseball market and any team would be lucky to have him.

also...wish we could combine the two threads on this.

Would be a good time to resurrect the Sploosh Emporium!

Not me. I don't think the situations could be any further apart except for the fact that lou managed in Tampa (prior to his year off before coming to the cubs).

Cubs front office was so different then. Lou was a guy who was supposed to win with a bloated payroll. Maddon will be expected to win by turning kids into guys that get bloated salaries.

I think this (presumed) hiring is a lot more exciting and a lot more unexpected.

The only similarities are that they share the same agent who happens to be based out of Chicago...

He is worlds different as far as personality and style go also.

Also Lou had a winning record as Cubs manager and went to the postseason twice in four years

I doubt anything will come of the tampering. And if it does I'm sure they'll happily pay the price

Yeah, I don't think they'll penalize yall for it, even if it did happen. I'm happy he's going to the Cubs instead of some other orgs.
