Martin is the second all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division I college baseball history, and second in all-time winning percentage. After the 2016 season, Martin had compiled a record of 1,898 wins, 671 losses and four ties over 37 seasons of collegiate coaching.

Only one team in college baseball, the University of Miami, has been to more consecutive NCAA Tournaments than Florida State, who have, as of the 2016 season, made 37 straight postseason appearances. Martin's Seminoles have won six Atlantic Coast Conference championships and have appeared in 15 College World Series.

Though Martin's teams have yet to win a national title, his tenure at Florida State is marked with many honors and feats.
In comparison, Skip won 5 championships in 18 years as a head coach at LSU. Martin has zero in 37 years.

LSU fans would've wanted him fired a long time ago

When's the last time FSU even went to the title game? I can't even remember them doing it in this decade.

A lot of futility. Seriously he is obviously a very good coach and incredibly consistent but over that long haul not being able to win one has got to be gnawing at him in the worst way. Being to the CWS so many times and not being able to take trophy home just once given all those chances tells me that he's not doing it right in Omaha for some reason.

People forget baseball is a sport of numbers.

If you were to play a cws style tourney with MLB, you would have some very mediocre teams win. This small of a sample size requires a lot of luck.

To call what Martin did at fsu a failure is fricking stupid. With all the conference titles and cws appearances, I'd call it very successful. There's a lot of competition in college baseball today with the equalizer of the bats and less steroid abuse (looking at you LSU).

He just comes off as a cold person who doesn't care about anybody in his company in person.

-every baseball coach

you could probably substitute "douche" there too.

Anyway, the guy's tenure is sure as hell not a failure, but I'd be a pretty restless FSU fan if he were my coach Making the CWS 1 in 3 years basically is very impressive though

Ah. Gotcha. Surprising given his reputation among media and former players.

It's been very frustrating not winning a title. The teams in the 90's should have at least lucked into one. To call it a failure is stupid.

To win at least 40 games 37 yrs in a row is something no other program will match.

Maybe he's become that way as he's gotten older.

I agree. No one can really say he's a failure with the number of wins and post season appearances he's had. But goddamn, the point of playing sports is to win a championship. It's got to be extremely frustrating.

A coach getting run after 3 or 4 years is a failure. Bill Snyder has not won a title, but he has done one of the best jobs in football history.
