Has the points leader and former champion ever been fired mid-season? Pretty crazy. He'll find a ride though.

Yea this doesn't make much sense. If I were Jack, I definitely would have done all I could to keep Kenseth

Kenseth didn't get fired. Just probably wasn't given the money that he wanted.

No sponsorship = not much Jack Roush can do

Didn't ever think there would be a day Roush couldn't find enough sponsorship for his cars. This will lead to one more start and park each week...

He has been having problems for a few years now.

Thats why they shut down the #6 car, which was his original cup car.

This is a sport wide problem though

Roush was personally funding Kenseth's car some weekends. Lets keep in mind he only has 22 NSCS wins in 14 seasons. More of a what have you done for me lately sport than anything.

Listening to NASCAR on XM. They seem to think he's going to be the fourth car at JGR, they're currently shopping for a sponsor. I could see Home Depot dropping Logano for Kenseth. They would just have to find something for Logano.

Where do you guys think Kenseth will end up? JGR is saying they havent talked to him yet but I'm guessing it's a smoke screen. Most of the bigger teams have A list drivers (except JGR/Logano) and I doubt anyone will be adding a new car to their stable.... Maybe one of the Penske cars or if Mark Martin really retires he could go full time at MWR....

Kenseth declines to discuss future...to Gibbs? Penske? UPDATE - Leaving Roush: #17-Matt Kenseth declined to discuss his future with Roush Fenway Racing before Sunday's race at Sonoma, where there was rampant speculation he's been talking to other race teams. Kenseth acts as his own agent, and has been with Roush his entire career. But his #17 Ford has limited sponsorship, and team owner Jack Roush has been paying out of his own pocket to ensure Kenseth runs a full season. "You know I don't talk about my contract," Kenseth said. "I'd like to have something to tell you, but I don't have anything to talk about right now. Until I have something to announce, I don't talk about it." Everybody else was talking, though, and Kenseth's name this weekend was linked to both Joe Gibbs Racing, a Toyota team, and Penske Racing, which is moving from Dodge to Ford in 2013. Kenseth is a longtime Ford driver. JGR team president J.D. Gibbs declined to discuss any possible negotiations with Kenseth. JGR not only has room for expansion to a fourth car, but Joey Logano's status as driver of the #20 is currently unresolved. Logano is in the final year of his contract. "I'm not allowed to talk," he said.

JGR has not said they haven't talked to him. I'd like you to show where you get your facts. MWR is looking to add Brian Vickers IMO. He's gotten 3 top 5s in the 4 races hes run for them this year. Penske is going to stick with the dinger. MWR would look to go to a fourth team, as well as JGR.

Book that. DCSportsBeerMan with the insight.

Where I think he will go: JGR if they can get a sponsor. Big IF, I know. Heck, they might take him even if they can't get one, even though Gibbs said they plan on keeping Logano.

Where I would like to see him go: Stewart-Hass

Last resort: Phoenix boots Kurt, and takes Matt

I know nothing about current contracts, and what it would take to get him on these teams.

Anyone know how much the average sponsor gives? Seems like Matt's consistent finishes could be worth something, but must not be near enough if Roush is funding the team. But, I don't know who gets the purse anyways.

Wow. Had no idea it would be that much. Gee whiz. Yea, the purse isn't even sniffing that. But, I guess you get your brand on TV 36 times a year, and depending on performance, how much you get shown in that 3 hours.
