And let's be honest, the Raiders organization isn't exactly great at talent evaluation...recent track record proves this.

Too bad the Raiders front office is completely new and the GM was the Packers director of player personnel that wanted Flynn from his GB days.

When he okays the cut, then you know it's bad, he was the reason they got Flynn to begin with. He basically drafted Flynn.

Pryor is just better, by a mile, and is a potential franchise QB that continues to get better and better on a large scale, each week.

Last week, and then this week, left no doubt.

So a guy who is a new GM (aka "has never been a Gm before") is all of a sudden the end all be all of player evaluation? I'll wait until he does something good before I dub him the standard for scouting. Not saying he was wrong, but it's not a clear indication that every other GM would have done the same.

You're insane if at this point you think otherwise.

Adam Schefter ?@AdamSchefter
Bill Polian on ESPN's NFL Insiders on Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor: "He's improved more than any player I've seen."

Peter King ?@SI_PeterKing 7 Oct
RT @nfldraftscout: The game is not too big for Terrelle Pryor ... Can take the punishment too. And can throw well on the run.

NFL on ESPN ?@ESPNNFL 7 Oct
Terrelle Pryor is easily one of the most elusive QBs in the league.

Matt Miller ?@nfldraftscout 6 Oct
Said this Week 1, but there is a lot to like with TP at QB in Oakland. Ups-and-downs expected, but he's earned the starting gig

Christopher Hansen ?@ChrisHansenNFL 22h
Raiders are perhaps 1 play and a Terrelle Pryor concussion away from 4-1.

@MichaelDavSmith: Raiders traded 1 and 2 for Palmer, traded 5 for Flynn and used a 4 on Wilson...already had their franchise QB in Pryor.

In the span of about two months Pryor has gone from likely backup to Matt Flynn to starter to unquestioned starter. On Sunday night, Pryor may have gone from unquestioned starter to the long-term answer for the Raiders at quarterback as well.

For Matt Flynn? Absolutely, he knows more about Flynn than anyone else, he drafted him at GB.

Flynn is done, he may take a backup gig somewhere and he may not and just live life with the money he has made.

I've watched both Cam Newton and T Pryor in two or three starts this season. Aside from some iffy mechanics, I don't see why Pryor can't be a better long-term option as franchise QB. He's faster, makes better decisions, and acts more like an on-field leader. I say all of this knowing that Cam is a tremendous talent in his own right.

At Ohio State, he was a pr*ck off the field. But no one ever questioned his competitive nature and will to win. Against Oregon in the Rose Bowl he re-aggravated a bum knee on the very first drive but stayed in the whole game and ultimately won. Kid's a gamer.

Why does Flynn get all sorts of excuses made for him but other overpaid players get slammed on here?

Raiders gave up a 5th round pick for Flynn and used a 4th round pick on Tyler Wilson and they have nothing to show for it

Smells like a business move. By cutting Flynn they still owe him the money but only owe him the difference I another team signs him.
. If Flynn goes to buffalo / Jax and signs a contract closer to what he is worth he will be fine.

Isn't everything in the NFL a business move?

I hope the Raiders finally learned their lesson.

Never ever ever take a QB from LSU.

Not as long as Les Miles is there with his high school offenses.

Take DL or Cornerbacks.

But LSU QBs are kindergarten while everyone else is playing college out there.

Not going to outright defend LSU QBs, but let's take a quick scan at Raider Starting QBs

quote:

2013 Terrelle Pryor (4) / Matt Flynn (1)
2012 Carson Palmer (15) / Terrelle Pryor (1)
2011 Carson Palmer (9) / Jason Campbell (6) / Kyle Boller (1)
2010 Jason Campbell (12) / Bruce Gradkowski (4)
2009 JaMarcus Russell (9) / Bruce Gradkowski (4) / Charlie Frye (3)
2008 JaMarcus Russell (15) / Andrew Walter (1)
2007 Josh McCown (9) / Daunte Culpepper (6) / JaMarcus Russell (1)

Only Culpepper and Palmer were ever any "good," and both came in with some sort of previous "star" pedigree. It hasn't been LSU QBs, it's been all QBs in Oakland.

Nice effort.

Jamarcus and Flynn were coached by Jimbo Fisher. He was excellent at developing quarterbacks. Zach Mettenberger is currently being coached by Cam Cameron. I'm going to assume he knows a thing or two about developing a pro quarterback.

I'll fix your statement.

Meh. Better chance than Flynn obviously but I still just don't think he has the accuracy

If wishes were horses.

I think Pryor has shown more than Flynn, so sure. By all means go with the cheaper, younger player. But potential franchise QB? Dude, he's had two good games, one against a pretty lousy defense. The San Diego game was pretty impressive, and if I were the Raiders, I'd go with Pryor as well.

But I'd also be eyeing a QB in the draft. But it's unsurprising to see Raider fans think they found the next Steve Young when they finally unearthed a decent QB. I mean, it's been a long time since they've seen competent QB play, it's easy to mistake it for greatness.

A sample size of 2 sucky LSU QBs is definitely large enough to draw that conclusion.

I am waiting in anticipation for when Mo Claiborne gets cut by the cowboys. He had an okay game Sunday (the INT was more luck) but he has by and large been horrid for most of his career so far.

According to the Raider HC, prior to the season they had plans to use Flynn in a controlled offense with McFadden as the featured back. In training camp the best of the OL was injured. McFadden could never stay healthy, so that plan was worthless. With little or no protection, an athletic quarterback is a better fit. Pryor, to his credit, has shown that he is pretty accurate while on the move. Pryor seems to get better each week.
I doubt there is a drop back immobile QB in the league who could have success behind that line.
