Louisiana jockeys arrested for allegedly fixing races

Three Louisiana jockeys were arrested Wednesday (July 22) for allegedly attempting to fix a recent horse race at the Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino in Lafayette by pulling their horses' reins. Additionally, two of the three arrested jockeys are accused shocking the animals with handheld electronic devices during two other races at same track.
Arrested were Billy Patin, 51, and Joseph Patin Jr., 46, both of Opelousas; and LeSean Conyers, 24, of Lafayette, a Louisiana State Police press release says. The official charges all three jockeys face are "willful pulling of the reins" and "cheating and swindling," stemming from a race on June 19.
"Troopers determined the jockeys willfully schemed to hold back a horse picked as a favorite to win while utilizing an agent to place unusual bets in an attempt to maximize winnings," the release says.

I for one am totally shocked and appalled that horse racing is anything but 100% legit. Guess I'm only left with Boxing and Lucha Libre.

The evd jockey crowd generally moves over to delta for the winter.

I've always thought the easiest and safest way to fix a race is make sure the favorite wins. No alarm bells go off when the 3/5 horse cruises in as expected. Nobody gets rich, but nobody goes to jail, either.

The head on shot is pretty bad. He throws his whip then "loses" his stirrups and still ends up 3rd
