Louisiana Derby Thoughts

Who is everyone on this weekend?
Great field this year.
I’ll be looking to beat Track Phantom and think Catching Freedom can do it.
Tuscan Gold is very interesting to me as well especially considering he should go off at decent money.
For some reason I think Honor Marie bounces back especially with the added distance.

I like Track Phantom. The real deal is Cox other horse, Timberlake. Toyed with Catching Freedom working at FG

Not a fan.
I think Sierra Leone and Dornoch are the horses to beat. It’s a shame so many contenders were scratched in the Fountain of Youth.
We will know a lot more in the next few weeks.
But yes Track Phantom is the horse to beat this weekend. He has been incredibly consistent. I’m just wondering if after going to the front early, which I’m guessing he will do, someone doesn’t catch him given the extra distance.

Who did Dornoch beat at Gulfstream? Fierceness has bad feet, and Pletcher keeps running his top 3 year olds into the ground earlier and earlier just like the master DWL. In all fairness, it's a weak 3 year old division.

No one. All the real contenders scratched. But he has beat Sierra Leone in an absolute awesome Remsen earlier this year.

Who's got the PPs? Link?

Big difference between 2 and 3 year olds. So far, no horse has stood out, IMO. A sneaky prep is the Jeff Ruby at Turfway.

Absolutely
But he’s only won since then. I am a big fan of his pedigree. If he had the chance to face better competition in his last race I’d be more decisive on him. But that wasn’t his fault. Really good horses were scratched.
I’m not saying he would be my derby pick today. I just like him more than Timberlake and I like Sierra Leone more than both.
I have a feeling this year a really sneaky horse could make some noise in the major preps and fetch some nice prices in the derby. I’m interested to see Tuscan Gold and Antiqurian race this weekend. I’ve been high on Honor Marie for a while now as well. That track really hampered him last race. It’s a really impressive field this Saturday.

Looks like Agate will run at the fairgrounds this Saturday. He was cross entered in the Ruby.
He’s the horse that is making this one really hard for me. Him and Hall of Fame are really making me second guess myself.
I’ll probably stick with Catching Freedom but wouldn’t be shocked to see Agate win it.

with cox having a horse in nearly every triple crown qualifier, and them being bet heavily, a lot of value in every race.
He was winning with a boat load of 2 year olds the last months, winning at indiana, kentucky,ny,Fairgrounds, etc If there was a maiden race, he had a horse in there.

I’m very interested in the long shot Pletcher horse and the sneaky Chad Brown horse.
antiquarian and Tuscan Gold.
The former just looks the part. Beautiful stride. An absolute specimen. Both haven’t approached this competition and are damn near racing off breaking their maidens.
Antiquarian is taking a very similar route to Maximum Security who was lightly raced before winning the Florida derby.
Track Phantom is the most proven horse. He hasn’t done anything wrong. But that 12 position with his style seems like he could be at a disadvantage Saturday. And there are a few real closers in this race. Honor Marie is a sneaky good horse and this race may set up well for him. And Real Men Violin is the same.
Tough one to handicap in my opinion. I’ll try to beat the favorite but haven’t made my mind up yet.
Will Hall of Fame live up to his purchase price? I can see four or five horses winning this race.

Where’s our resident horse lady?
I can’t remember her handle but she’s always full of information.
