83 yards away for his second shot and still didn't birdie.

The first thing that crossed my mind when I read the thread title was a Tiger Ryno joke. Well played.

Saw that too

What's the rule on a shot like that? Does he get relief from the cart path? I assume it's something like nearest point of relief no closer to the hole.

Unless he has to hit off the cart path like Phil did not too long ago?

I once had the opposite experience. Huntington in Shreveport No. 10 tee. My drive hit a big tree on the right edge of the fairway about 150 yards from the tee.

The ball bounced down on the cart path at an angle toward me. There was also a downward grade to the path leading the ball back toward me. It stayed on that path until it approached a ditch with water in front of the 18th green. It decided to leave the path and go into the ditch.

Resulted in a 20 yard drive and penalty for unplayable lie.

I once hit a -50 yard drive at the old LSU course.

Way back in the day, on #4, (parallel to the Nicholson extension), part of a railroad track was still on the course and was about 20-30 yards in front of the teebox. I wasn't a great golfer back then (well I'm still not) and never knew what to expect. Turns out, I hit a hard, vicious screamer....but it only went about 3 inches off the ground. It hit the track....went a mile in the air...and landed about 50 yards behind me on the other side of the canal by #3 green.

There is nothing more depressing on a golf course than having to watch your ball fly past you...

you get relief from the cart path. Sometimes the drop spot sucks and thats why they hit off the path. And hitting off the cart path isnt bad. its a bare lie just cant really hit down on it. But you always have the option to drop when you ball rests on the path

He can double-eagle a par 5 at the masters, but can't birdie a par 5 off a 500 yard drive. Golf gods said frick you

Yeah...I still laugh a little when I look back on it. It is more the image I have of myself watching the ball go forward....carom....then having to twist my neck and look backwards as the ball flew by.

As a footnote....I took my front 9 mulligan on that hole...
