You can bet the Braves would fight tooth and nail to keep Charlotte from getting a team. They have a virtual monopoly on the southeast market: GA, AL, MS, TN, NC/SC, even parts of North Florida and North Louisiana is "Braves country". I don't know if there is any team in the league that has a larger regional fanbase.

I think the Yankees and Red Sox would fight against being in by far the toughest division together with no wild card option.

Would this get rid of the wild card?

Why would you want a system that allows for the second best team in all of baseball to miss the playoffs?

Yeah I don't see Charlotte getting a team anytime soon. TV contracts and market ownership mean everything to most organizations. Pretty sure that's part of the issue with the A's, the Giants "TV" market includes San Jose and large part of the growth areas.

Expansion in general is a terrible idea. Ray's and A's need to be relocated before any talk of expansion is considered.

This.

And move the A's to Portland and Rays to somewhere in Central Texas.

SA tried to court the Marlins several years ago. 2006 I think? Rangers and Astros were pretty firm in trying to fight it. New ownership for both teams since then, but I can't imagine they'd be any more willing to see a new Texas team.

Yeah it's the same dynamic as what goes on with the NFL, really Franchises in the other two big cities have sizable fanbases here that they're loathe to lose.

Ya, dont blame them for not wanting another team. But Austin metro will be up nearly 750k since 2006, with stats showing its not going to stop soon. You know they like tv markets.

best name for a Charlotte expansion team?

The Charlotte Flairs (or Carolina Flairs, I suppose, since after I posted I remembered his daughter's stage name is Charlotte Flair, )

flair

noun
1. a special or instinctive aptitude or ability for doing something well.
2. stylishness and originality.

also...come on...
