Even if I was without question, by far, unanimously the best person in my field in the history of the universe...I could never wear a shirt out in public calling myself King.

Probably around the same time people stop calling Earvin Johnson "Magic Johnson" and Julius Irving "dr j"

He's an all time great player that has a nickname. Deal with it bawww.

Guaranteed if that was MJ in a jersey that said "His Airness" on the back LeBron haters would be like "tGOAT "

Jordan wouldn't wear something like that. He was confident enough to just let people call him that, but he would never refer to himself or wear something like that. LBJ has a great nickname given to him, but it is douchey to wear a jersey with it spelled out. Let the fans wear it and call you that and be mature enough to know you don't need to say it or wear it. Have a custom made Indians jersey with James on it would have been way cooler. But that's just me I guess

I have and he came across a bit douchey

He wasn't wearing a "His Airness" or "GOAT" or whatever branding spelled out. Wearing Nike clothing with the logo do not count as that comes normal. LBJ did a custom made jersey.

Meh. Everyone already knows his nickname, I just wouldn't wear something calling myself King. It's douchey and you can admit that. Let everyone else call you that.

White people need to settle down. If Lebron is okay with Chief Wahoo that means it's not racist.

custom made jersey - bad

At your hof speech telling everyone how great you are, defiantly - not as bad?

Ok

this is again one of those things only Lebron is hated on for. There's an entire Brand built on the nickname Magic, I've never heard the same argument, and it's certainly in the same realm as King James.

Jordan was/is an egotistical maniac. Because he played before the explosion of the internet and social media, nobody knows how he would have behaved in this environment.

Regardless, I'm not sure why we expect
individuals with vastly different personalities to behave the same way off the court (where their similarities diverge) a generation apart. I mean the only reason MJ and LeBron are compared is for their basketball prowess. Personality-wise they are very different.
