I legit think if Fitz played more than 1/3 of his career with a decent QB he'd be in discussion for #2 best at minimum. Dude is so good. And what's even better is he seems to be an even greater teammate.

yeah he was on those rich gannon-era raider teams
believe he was the #2 WR (timeless tim brown was #1) on the super bowl team

1. Rice

3. Fitzgerald
4. Moss

The 4 main guys, Rice/Megatron/Fitz/Moss are all great in their own way.
Rice was obviously the best route runner, and produced better than anyone else. How work ethic is legendary and his performance on the field showed it. his records speak for themselves.
Megatron was a physical and athletic force that demanded double teams when he went deep, but was still good enough after the catch that 5 yard passes could easily turn into long tds. Probably the most gifted receiver ever.
Fitz uses his body probably better than any wr ever to get open and make catches, and you never expect him to drop a pass. Probably the most reliable 3rd down WR ever.
Moss changed how defenses played. He could play a game and not have a single catch and still have a huge impact on the game. It was impossible to not have 2 guys always near him, sometimes 3. Imagine if he would have been a Patriot most of his career. He is the best deep ball threat ever, and that one is not close.

Actually, by Rice's 2nd season with the Raiders, where they made the Super Bowl, he was the #1 receiver, at least in terms of catches, yards and TDs. In fact, during that season, Jerry Porter started taking looks away from Tim Brown.
I remember a Monday Night Football game during that season. Tim Brown recorded his 1,000th NFL catch. They stopped the game to honor him.
Very next play, stealing some of that show, Jerry Rice catches a slant over the middle and takes it the rest of the way for a TD, leaving a couple Jet defenders falling on themselves. The GOAT.
As for the subject of this thread, Fitz has been my favorite player to watch for about 10 years now. His work ethic is remindful of Rice's. He'll run any route to ask of him (Moss bragged about how he would try to avoid going over the middle). Go deep, slant in, etc. He has enough game speed to break a short pass to a long gain, and he performs in 4th quarters and post season games.
His body usage and control is similar to Cris Carter. Those two were probably the best ever in that regard.
He's also more than willing to block. Another trait similar to that of Rice. People always forget, but Jerry Rice and John Taylor were very good blockers on the outside for those 49er teams of the late 80s and early 90s.

It's almost unimaginable what we'd be saying about him if he'd had a Joe Montana as his QB for at least 3/4ths of his career. In my mind, he deserves to be in "the GOAT" argument regardless.

All these lists are dumb without Don Hutson. He was the greatest WR of all time, until Rice. He basically helped create the forward pass and his records stood for decades. He tripled the output of his closest competitors. It would be like someone coming in today and putting up a 3,000 yard season and then do the same thing for the next 5 seasons.
I get that times change and all. But the guy was a monster that dominated the league. Plus won 3 championships, was an elite defensive back and a decent kicker. The guy still owns over a dozen NFL records. He is being looked over..

top 12 or so
This. Indisputable top 5 is pretty silly. Lots of good receivers over the years but we are a prisoner of the moment society.
Isaac Bruce
Marvin Harrison

Fitz is elite for his age, but not even sure he's the most accomplished active receiver. I think Andre Johnson was better in his prime than Fitz and he's still playing, though he isn't the player now that Fitz is

fitz and rice weren't elite physical talents but out-worked the field and dominated
I mean Fitz is 6'3" 225 and ran a 4.47 at his pro-day with a 35 inch vertical and repped 225 20 times. No he's not quite the specimen that Megatron was, but that's still a physically elite talent.

I'd have him right behind Rice, Moss, and Owens as of now. He's been one of my favorites his whole career. That TD last night was insane, and I enjoyed even more since he gave me 20 in fantasy

You are taking him out of context.
Obviously he is an elite athlete, but compared to someone like Moss, pretty much everyone not named LeBron isn't elitem

Larry Fitzgerald - Where does he rank all-time among WRs? by Street Hawk
Fitzgerald, to me, is like the Ken Griffey Jr. of NFL WRs. Not so much that their careers follow a similar arc, but more the fact that they're 1st ballot HOFers who are beloved across all fan bases.
There are some what ifs that follow both, but they're also an absolute fan favorite.
Assuming Fitz retires without a ring, where does he rank in the pantheon of NFL skill players that failed to win a title? Megatron, Barry Sanders, Marino, are all elite players without a ring.

If Fitz plays another season after this season, he could very well end his career 2nd all-time in receiving yards and 3rd in receptions. He'll probably fall around 6th all-time in receiving TDs. I don't think there should be any argument whatsoever that he's a top 5 or better WR all-time

Rice
Moss
TO
Bruce
Fitz
Megatron
The nfl passing/defensive rules really inflated their #s.

at 39 and 40, without the 49ers, he put up back to back 1100+ yard seasons and at 41 had 869 yards
His last year with Seattle he put up 8 catches for 145 yards and a TD in a MNF game against Dallas at age 42.
Jerry Rice may have had the most ridiculous career of anyone at any sport.
Rice tore his ACL and MCL at 35, was back in 14 weeks then cracked his patella scoring a TD. Then still went on to play 7 more seasons 6 of which he had 800+ yards 3 over 1000 yards.

Fitz is a machine.
The dude only has 26 drops in 12 years.

That's the thing, besides Jerry Rice, I'm not sure there's ever been anyone as sure handed.

Johnson was fantastic, but he couldn't get the touchdowns like Fitz. Biggest difference. Fitzgerald will get 6, and no moment has ever been too big for him.

Actually, while Rice is the GOAT and my personal all-time favorite athlete, he had his share of dropped passes. I'd say guys like Fitz, Cris Carter, Isaac Bruce and Lance Alworth were "more sure-handed".
Thing with Rice was he had ALL the combined characteristics of a great wide receiver, and then had that extra drive like Michael Jordan (who wasn't necessarily the best pure shooter, fastest guard, etc) to crank up his game in the 4th quarters and in the post-season.
That's why even though he "only" ran 4.59 or so in the 40 yard dash... When you put the pads and helmet on, and especially in late in the games, he would run away from supposedly faster defenders.
